It’s a good thing that none of you are in politics. The entire point of diplomacy is to listen to what the “bad guy” has to say. Accepting the olive branch when it’s offered doesn’t mean that you are letting the guy date your daughter. The fact of the matter is that until someone sits down and starts listening to what HE has to say, he’s got no reason to listen to us.

the north has given NO reason to believe there will be peace in any matter of time as long as that government is in power. he talks of peace and yet also of reunification. those 2 are polar opposites of one another. there is simply no way the south wants to live under north korean domination which are the only terms the north has for the south. the real question is- how will the inevitable conclusion (war) turn out. china doesn’t want a flood of millions of north koreans running in but won’t be able to stop them all. and the south will eventually have to shoulder an incredible cost to get the north up to modern standards

If might be useful if somebody could ask Km exactly does he mean when he encourages unification? Reunifying North and South Korea into one country? What would be his role? What would the country’s political system be?

Why do I have the feeling that this is empty propaganda – or is it really a signal? That should be easy enough to find out.

The new S. Korean leader could visit Pyongyang and ask Kim some straight forward questions or, better yet, they could hold a joint public news conference.

These end of the year speeches about peace are always b.s. If he actually wanted peace he would sign a peace treaty to officially end the Korean war. I look forward with great optimism to many more Onion News articles about Kim Jung Un in 2013.

Kim Jong Un just needs to give the door a little crack and take a breath of some fresh air . Hes taking baby steps before running. I personally do not think bashing on him before giving a chance will make things better. After reading all of the above comments its hard. Everyone deserves chances/options to hold true to their word. The people deserve a break from the hell that has become the norm. Reuniting loved ones and such all around the world. Will this happen? Lets just keep positive for a minute while holding our breaths.

You cant violate UN Missle Treaties and turn around a throw olive branches, no one will take it serious.

I think reunification under south korean democracy is the only viable option.

In this beautiful, renewed spirit of peaceful relations, the DPRK should release the tens of thousands of North Korean families of that are working in government slave labor camps, rock quarries, and other places untouched by God that have been used to condemn dissenters and keep their people living in fear.

The problem with the reunification offer from North Korea is that this little dictator thinks he will be the dictator of the entire Korean peninsula. These people are not rational on any level.
