How is this “News”…ABC is basically saying: “Something Almost Happened” ….

Since when is a second hand account of something ‘somebody’ else saw ….posted on Facebook ….a reliable and News-worthy quote?

So, ABC, why aren’t the cell phone videos included in this article??

Agreed… NO news here. Even for a slow news day, this a NATIONAL news site and ABC should be ashamed of reporting on an inept high-school prank. Or maybe ABC thinks the use of social media for a gathering is news? So far the only notable thing is that one of the repliers above wants to make the incident racial. It’s the South y’all…. any surprise that teens can’t get a flash mob right? Really?

@Sister- There were around 200 high school teens. There were most likely several ethnicitys there.

Obviously, we need more flash mob regulation. Maybe any planned flash mob scene needs to be registered with all participants being registered and background checks approved before it is allowed to take place. This way, we can continue to increase government, tax more, and spend more (continuing to neglect being fiscally responsible by decreasing spending equally among ALL of the US, versus the pet spending of those in “power”). Lets also go ahead and begin installing chips in people as they register so that one day we will have the ability to track most of the people of this free nation. Aint anything fiscally free about this nation if you choose to work versus choosing to work the system for as much as you can. Of all of the govt cheese being handed out, Id bet 3/4 of it shouldnt be based on those “working” the system, just like these flash mobbers. Some people dont see a need for guns and talk about the negatives. I dont see the need for flash mobs and potentially injuring innocent people, especially someone like a mother and her young infant. As a nation, we need to get back to the direction of doing what is right for all. Respect, hard work, and the golden rule (doing unto others as you would have done unto yourself).

I am one of very few black people who is against the cultural idiocy presented in African America. The leaders of African America (rappers) promote every kind of anti social, anti intellectual, disruptive movement that you can think of. And African Americans are typically too stupid to realize what it is they are doing.

This article is lacking lots of info that has been reported on local news outlets. Several fights broke out, up to a dozen arrests. A year ago – similar situation, same mall, resulted in a shooting that killed 2 people. Store employees immediately responded by closing up. Seems to me the stores have learned how to respond quickly.

One way to control a flash mob. Start a stampede.

Back in my day, If we wanted to gather socially we had these things called house parties. Sadly it seems like gathering in a giant group in a mall is how these kids have fun. Lame

People who do not get along with others are interested only in themselves; they will disagree with what everyone else knows is right. A fool does not care whether he understands a thing or not; all he or she wants to do is show how smart he is. When a fool starts an argument, he is asking for a beating. flash mobs have been cleaning off shelves at retail stores – still rare at the moment, but wait until the dollar becomes worthless and those mobs organize for home invasions.

This show how we are increasingly living in fear of gun violence but still we dont do anything about it. The gun advocates still keep saying more people with gun will bring in safety. Time to think about this senseless conclusion. God Bless America.

so, agreed with all the others: stupid. A lone picture of a police car in the parking lot. A single link to a previous mall shooting. Can we please get some news about what was actually agreed upon about the spending cuts of the Government? did they actually agree to terminate the outrageous pensions they are paying themselves that the public never asked them to pursue? That is one of the primary reasons this country is broke. That and the media reporting an B$ stories like this to keep the public attention diverted.

Sorry folks, but I can remember a rather giant fight of a similar nature.. in the 70s, where i grew up. Two groups of high school teens from two schools, met in a park and it was several hundred kids in a few different races. The media loves to turn this into some earth shattering event, to sensationalize. But large fights of teens is nothing new. And that “flash mob” thing. Do they mean getting together to dance? Or running around looting together??

For those of you below who think this story isn’t newsworthy…. you are missing the point of the story.
The news here is that the people: young people (who are ingesting a lot of media/news) got scared: PANICKED with the mere mention there might be a gun toting person in the crowd… and apparently the situation was so intense that the mall managers/security decided that everyone must go…. employees “were ordered to abandon their cash registers and evacuate immediately.”

It’s about time we ban children from owning cellphones that have an internet connection, camera or texting.

It was kids without enough to do, and without enough ADULT supervision to keep them out of trouble, that caused this mess. Eventually, the culprits will be found and punished. The greater danger lies in a mass media hungry for outrageous stories to tell, and willing to embellish enough of the facts to make them all the more outrageous. Free speech is not just a right, it is a precious gift. When a media with a sacred duty not to abuse that freedom do abuse it, in this way, just a little more of our precious freedom is doomed. They love to pretend to be the champions of free speech, but it is they who will get it taken from all of us.

This is just sensational page fill up news , which has no meaning, waste of time and space. worth nothing. This page editor looks like sleeping in beer bar. It is worthless to accept and publish such useless news.

Kids always do dumb stuff

Well, ABC did it again. Reports about a flash mob but doesn’t define what one is for their less intelligent readers. For all of you who assume this was a mob mentality issue here–a FLASH mob is a group of people of all ages, races, religions, genders and ethnicities who perform for a crowd. The mob seemingly forms out of the shoppers who appear to be just happening by, then they usually perform a pre-rehearsed dance number and disburse. They happen all over the world just for fun. They are not initiated to instill fear in the crowd. Nobody brings weapons. This was a case where some bystander freaked out by seeing a large group gather and yelled out about someone having a weapon. That one person was probably not even part of the flash mob. Before you post hatefilled comments about how this must be perportrated by a single race, check out flashmobs on youtube.

Malls should be outlawed. They are dangerous.

We have teenagers who get in fights , bring guns, and knives in the malls in Louisiana all the time. You never know when there planned, or whose going to die.

TOM: I’m amazed that you come to the defense of blacks when blacks are in the wrong. In the 1930′s-50′s, when the Italian mob ran wild in New York killing hundreds and causing social anarchy, it was the mainstream Italian community of New York that put a stop to it. They said no longer will we tolerate these animals committing these crimes in our name and make a poor representation of our community. So they became educated and went to law school, becomming attorneys general and district attorneys who went on to prosecute these Italain mobsters. It was the Italians who went after the Italian mobs. With blacks, it’s the opposite. The activists become attorneys and then defend the behavior on account of “civil rights.” It’s not a gray matter. It is a black matter.

Hi guys/girls. I ask you why you focus so much on the racial aspect? It seems kind of silly. Why does it matter what race, or mix thereof? It was probably a mix of races, which makes it stupid to speculate at it. People come on… Racism is not appropriate for any public forum because it shows an insecurity of yours and it shows the cowardice of those who enjoy the idea of insulting entire groups of people. While some of you might return comment that you are racist in your everyday life and all the time. Now I want you to realize how stupid that makes you. Now, we should focus on the fact that it was a silly prank and while it might have caused some hysterics its now in the past lol. Just inform kids of the damage they might have caused and the true consequences. A little trust might be needed. They could have been well meaning. Flash mob movies expose kids to the idea that they can change things and make difference where normally they feel helpless to change their enviorment. Also, it might seem a cool idea to them. So before we assume they meant harm or were being bad look at their exposure and how they might feel the inability to change how the outside world influences.
