ABC News President Ben Sherwood sent the following note to the news division announcing the name of the ABC-Univision joint venture:
Today we’re making an exciting announcement about the ABC-Univision joint venture. The venture officially has a name: The new multi-platform service will be called Fusion.
Fusion will be the indispensable meeting place for English-speaking Latinos, bringing together diverse cultures, voices and viewpoints. Fusion will deliver informative and entertaining programming in the great story-telling traditions of ABC and Univision. And Fusion will give Latinos and audiences from all backgrounds a fresh, fun and optimistic voice in the American conversation.
Our new name is latest achievement for our small and dedicated team as we gear up for launch in the second half of 2013.
Ben Pyne, David Preschlack, Justin Connolly and the distribution team have already lined up five deals with some of the biggest operators in the U.S., including Cablevision, Charter, Cox, AT&T U-verse and Google Fiber.
We’ve made a number of key hires, and many more are on the way.
Online content is already attracting hundreds of thousands every month, and you can find Fusion’s digital team on Twitter, Pinterest and Tumblr.
Plus we’ve broken ground on a new headquarters in Miami and a state of the art digital facility is starting to take shape.
You’ll see more details about the new brand in the release copied below.
For all of us at ABC News, the successful launch of Fusion is a very high priority in 2013. Thank you all for what you’ve done so far – and for all that you’ll do in the days ahead.
And please join me in congratulating the Fusion team on this milestone.
