The legal system needs to stay out of personal affairs. The girl was not being abused and the answer isnt to force the parents to support this, if she is in danger then remove her from the home. Justice is not served by taking away the rights of the parents to honor the rights of the child. If she wants to have her baby fine...there are lots of group homes for pregnant teens out there. If she wants to stay home no baby...its her choice. The same people who always have so much to say about abortion are the same people who want to cut government programs for teens and unwed mothers who cant support themselves. Yes, there is the option of adoption but there are many children in the system now who never get adopted and once again land in government funded foster homes that people are complaining about paying for. The parents were right in letting her experience what being an adult is ahead of time and if that makes her feel that she needs to have an abortion than thats the choice she needs to make but the judge putting her in a situation that takes away from her soon to be reality helps no one. I have taken my daughter's car away for much less and I would give it away before I would let a judge tell me what to do with my own property.

Incidentally, I found this article by googling "morons getting pregnant immediately after high school".

A lot of people in the comments bang on and on about "her body, her choice", but they forget one crucial thing; choices have consequences. If she chooses to carry this baby to term and raise the child, the consequence is that she has to be able to financially and emotionally support it. Having 2-3 crappy jobs and no luxuries isn't "punishing" you, it's giving you a head start on what your life is going to be like with no education and no money.

Oftentimes insurance will NOT pay for your daughter's pregnancy. The parents are now on the line for thousands of dollars. Even more if she has a c-section, which many young girls have. And who will have to watch the kid when she's in high school, since apparently she pretends she wants to continue? Her parents. Or they will have to pay for daycare. Where does her responsibility begin? Popping out a kid DOES NOT MAKE YOU RESPONSIBLE. Having and caring for a child you want and can afford and are emotionally and physically ready for means you are responsible. If she wanted to smoke crack, are we going to say that her parents need to let her make her own decision and then be on the line to pay for medical care, etc. resulting from that decision?

Sad. You can't force her to have the abortion. I have a feeling that her parents where telling her that if she wanted the baby she couldn't stay at home. Part of her issue when she went to the courts where they where making her work, took her car and her phone. She wants the baby, but thinks that her Mom and Dad should still pay for everything. Sorry girl. Your going to be a mom. Time to grow up. Your teen years are over. You have a child coming. Means you have to deal with it. You have to work to make money to live. Welcome to the real world. Courts are out of line to make her parents pay for anything. My kids know how I feel. I was told the same thing by my parents and guess what. I didn't get a girl pregnant when I was a teen.

The low life REK got stuck with when she was born should've given her to loving parents. Being a teenage mom is nothing new but they can make it work. My niece got pregnant at 16 and is a great mom to her baby. I can't say that everyone will be but those losers she calls mom and dad don't have the right to make demands. She has a right over her body with the pregnancy. Dad probably pulled her out of school so they state can support her and the baby along with the two jobs so he can quit, drink beer all day and just become more of a bum. You know he doesn't want to work, he probably is nothing but good for nothing who probably beat her if there was physical abuse. The parents should pay the FULL amount of the hospital stay and child support for the child until he's 21. Oh and did I mention if I was REK I would tell my child every day how grandma/grandpa hated them and wanted them dead? I would say it in front of them any time they even looked at my child. Child will have every right to hate them.

I'm pro choice and that means I strongly believe that it is the girl's decision whether or not to terminate, not her parents. That being said, I hope she puts the child up for adoption. he/she will have a much better life than if the teenage parents try to raise that baby.

Fascinating conversation. I wonder how many of those upholding the rights of the parents here are otherwise "pro-life". They may not hesitate to consider abortion if it's their child who is pregnant, but do not hesitate to criticize others' decisions to do so. Pro-choicers are about choice, they don't consider abortion to be always the right thing, nor the easy thing to do, but each woman should have the choice to decide for herself. As a parent, I can give advice to my child, but I cannot presume to be able to make that tough decision either way for her. She will have to live with the decision, and she should be prepared to be responsible for the decision, ie. to fully support the child if she has it.

Take note Family Court system and process. If you players gave one third as much emphasis on a babies need for each and both parents, ESPECIALLY A FATHER, we would well be on our way to giving all children the life they need. Where are the prolifers on this????? Start with ending monetary child support which sets up for extortion of one parent.

I just want to see if after she has the baby we see her in the news for child abuse, child neglect, or horrific thing that young, unprepared parents do to their children. I can see praise from all of the pro-life folks for her 'standing up for her right' but who is there to ensure that child is protected? Who will ensure that child will live a life where all of it's needs are met? Are all of the 'defenders of her rights to have a child' going to come to aid of the child? With so many children taken aware from abusive homes or worse, abused to death for stupid things like crying or peeing their pants, I wonder sometimes how truly beautiful it was for the "parent" to choose life in stead of abortion. My heart breaks when I see a story of a child abused to death (or sexually abused period) because children are innocent and helpless. Look up BRIANNA LOPEZ and then tell me it is beautiful thing for all pregnant women to bear children....and how God was there to spare this child the pain and suffering in her short life. I love a rosy picture, but the reality isn't always a rosy picture.
