Assistant Principal Arrested For Allegedly Having Sex With Student

At Spring High School outside Houston, Texas, administrators have been busy addressing an incident involving one of their own. Assistant Principal Mark West was arrested Monday, accused of having sex with a student in his office while prom was taking place on campus last May.

West, 30, resigned Friday after being placed on administrative leave last month.

According to the criminal complaint obtained by the Houston Chronicle, administrators began investigating West last year after reports that he had inappropriate relationships with students. The Chronicle said female students had been seen "laughing and smiling, with their disheveled hair and clothing as they left 'closed-door meetings' in his office."

The incident at prom was brought to the attention of investigators when they interviewed the former student who was said to have been involved.

West has been charged with having an improper relationship with a student and has posted $30,000 bail.

The principal of Spring High School, Donna Ullrich, sent a letter home to parents saying students' safety is of the highest importance. The school is on break this week.

"The administration at Spring High School takes every allegation seriously and will conduct a thorough investigation and expose inappropriate behavior when necessary," read the letter.

Mark West could not be reached for comment.
