"ABC World News with Diane Sawyer" Grows Overall and Demo Audiences by 8% Year-to-Year - Posts Increases in Both Measures During 9 of Last 10 Weeks

"ABC World News" Cuts Total Viewing Gap with "NBC Nightly News" During 13 of the Last 14 Weeks

Season-to-Date, ABC Has Slashed Total Viewing Gap with NBC to Smallest in 5 Years and Demo Gap to Smallest in 4 Years

For the week of April 1, 2013, "ABC World News with Diane Sawyer" averaged 7.40 million Total Viewers and a 1.6 rating/7 share/1.89 million in Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research.

For the 3rd straight week, "World News" saw gains on the year-ago week (6.839 million and 1.754 million, respectively, on w/o 4/2/12) among both Total Viewers (+8%) and Adults 25-54 (+8%). In fact, "World News" has delivered year-to-year increases in both measures in 9 of the last 10 weeks.

Also for the 3rd week running, "World News" narrowed its Total Viewer gap with "NBC Nightly News" versus the year-ago week by double-digits (-11% - 974,000 vs. 1.09 million). Further, "World News" has cut the Total Viewer margin on the same week last year in 13 of the last 14 weeks.

Season-to-date, "World News" has increased its Total Viewing audience (+3%) compared to the same point last season, drawing its most-watched season in 2 years - since the 2010-11 season. "World News" narrowed its margins by double- digits among both Total Viewers (-28%) and Adults 25-54 (-14%) with "NBC Nightly News" to post its smallest Total Viewer gap (786,000) with the NBC program in 5 years and narrowest demo margin (320,000) in 4 years - since the 2007-08 and the 2008-09 seasons, respectively.

For the week, "ABC World News" outperformed the "CBS Evening News" by 987,000 Total Viewers and by 180,000 Adults 25-54.
