“GMA” is #1 for the Week in Total Viewers

“GMA” Ranks #1 in Total Viewers in All 41 Weeks of the Seasons, the Programs Largest Number of No. 1 Finishes During a Season in 20 Years

“GMA” Widens its Total Viewer Lead Over “Today” Compared to the Same Week Last Year by 54%

ABC News’ “Good Morning America” attracted 4.885 million Total Viewers, 1.734 million Adults 25-54 and 1.210 million Adults 18-49 for the week of July 8, 2013, according to Nielsen Media Research.  “GMA” outperformed NBC’s “Today” (4.359 million) by +526,000 Total Viewers to stand as the week’s No. 1 morning program in overall viewers.  “GMA” widened its Total Viewer lead over “Today” compared to the same week last year by +54% (342,000 for w/o 7/9/12).

“GMA” has ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers in all 41 weeks of the season, turning in its largest number of No. 1 finishes during a season in 20 years – since the 1992-93 season.  In addition, the ABC morning newscast has ranked No. 1 every week in Total Viewers for the last 11 months (the last 47 weeks - since w/o 8/13/12).  ”GMA’s” 47 consecutive weeks at the top stand as its longest stretch at No. 1 in more than 21 years – since before the 1991-92 season; Nielsen’s electronic database started on September of 1991.

For the 10th week in a row, “GMA” built on the year-ago week (4.555 million and 1.696 million, respectively, on w/o 7/9/12) in both Total Viewers (+7%) and Adults 25-54 (+2%) – improving on the year-ago week in overall viewers in all 41 weeks this season. 

Season to date, “GMA” stands as the No. 1 morning news program in both Total Viewers and Adults 25-54.  The ABC morning newscast is leading “Today” by its largest season margin in overall viewers (+660,000) in more than 21 years and in the adult news demo (+79,000) in 20 years – since before the 1991-92 season and the 1992-93 season, respectively; Nielsen’s electronic database started on September of 1991.

Season to date, “GMA” is up in both Total Viewers (+9%) and Adults 25-54 (+3%) versus its year-ago averages, growing the most in the key adult news demo (NBC’s “Today” is down -11%/-17%, respectively; CBS’ “This Morning” is up +12%/+2%, respectively). “GMA” is seeing its largest overall season audience in 8 years and best Adult 25-54 performance in 5 years - since the 2004-05 and 2007-08 seasons, respectively.

“GMA” beat “CBS This Morning” across all key target demo: Total Viewers (+82%), Adults 25-54 (+87%) and Adults 18-49 (+85%).
