Towson University’s cheerleading team has been placed on suspension following allegations of hazing, a school official confirmed to ABC News today.

The university says they were informed of the allegations on Aug. 6 and immediately launched an investigation. Towson University’s Office of Student Conduct and Civility Education and the university’s Athletics’ Department cooperated together on the investigation.

“Hazing in any form will not be tolerated at Towson University. We hold high expectations for all of our students and their conduct as leaders, both on and off campus,” Dr. Deb Moriarty, Towson University’s vice president for student affairs said in a statement.

“Out of concern for students’ privacy and their rights to due process, that includes their right to appeal the suspension, it would be inappropriate for the university to comment further.”

There are over 30 cheerleaders on the 2013-2014 squad according to a roster posted on the university’s athletic site. The squad primarily represents Towson Athletics at functions and events both on and off campus.
