How Chipper Jones Saved Atlanta Braves Star From Epic Snowstorm Traffic Jam

Former Atlanta Braves star Chipper Jones became the MVP  when he rode to the rescue of an ex-teammate who was among thousands stuck on iced over Atlanta highways Tuesday night.

Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman was among the thousands of people stranded when the rare southern snowstorm turned major roadways into sheets of ice.

Freeman shared his plight on Twitter where he let his followers know he was safe, but stuck in an epic traffic jam.

Retired baseball star and Twitter aficionado Chipper Jones saw his former teammate was in trouble and went into hero mode. His friend, Taylor Higgins, tweeted that she was sending Jones “on a run.”

Jones chivalrously rode into the cold on an all-terrain vehicle to find Freeman and rescue him from the gridlock.

In all, Freeman’s travel nightmare lasted nearly half a day.

Nearly 8,000 students across Georgia and Alabama camped out with teachers in school gyms or on buses and commuters abandoned cars along the highway to seek shelter in churches, fire stations — even grocery stores — after the rare storm left many frozen in their tracks.

In Louisiana, the deep freeze even tamed New Orleans’ infamously rowdy French Quarter.
