"This Week" Posts its First Back-to-Back Quarter Victories Over NBC's "Meet the Press" in 16 Years in Total Viewers

On December 29, 2013, ABC News' "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" ranked No. 1 in the final telecast of 2013 in both Total Viewers (3.069 million) and Adults 25-54 (1.002 million) , according to Nielsen Media Research. "This Week" outdelivered NBC's "Meet the Press" by 353,000 Total Viewers and by 226,000 Adults 25-54. In fact, "This Week" has beaten the NBC program in Total Viewers for the last 4 weeks and 4 of the past 5 weeks in Adults 25-54. Further, "This Week" led "Meet the Press" by its largest news demo margin in more than 16 years - since 8/31/97, based on regular telecasts.

"This Week" beat CBS' "Face the Nation" by 144,000 Total Viewers and by 170,000, outdrawing the CBS program by its biggest news demo advantage in more than 14 months - since 10/7/12.

"This Week" posted week-to-week increases in both Total Viewers (+5%) and Adults 25-54 (+24%) - 2.916 million and 805,000, respectively on 12/22/13. In fact, the ABC public affairs program turned in its best Adults 25-54 performance in more than 14 months - since 10/7/12.

Year to year, "This Week" improved in both Total Viewers (+5%) and Adults 25-54 (+9%) - 2.924 million and 918,000, respectively on 12/30/12. "This Week" built on its year-ago Total Viewer audience for the last 7 Sundays.

Season to date, " This Week" is up in Total Viewers (+7%) versus its year-ago season average, growing for the 3rd year in a row to deliver its most-watched season in 5 years - since the 2008-09 season. In addition, "This Week" is up the most compared to the same point last season versus CBS' "Face the Nation" (+2%), NBC's "Meet the Press" (-10%) and Fox's "Fox News Sunday" (-4%).

4Q 2013

For the 4th Quarter 2013 , "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" averaged 2.916 million Total Viewers and 806,000 Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research. "This Week" beat NBC's "Meet the Press" (2.849 million and 803,000, respectively) in Total Viewers (+67,000) and Adults 25-54 (+3,000), leading the NBC program during a 4th quarter for the first time in 17 years in overall viewers and 20 years in the key adult news demo - since 4Q96 and 4Q93, respectively.

In addition, after beating "Meet the Press" during 3Q13 in both demos, "This Week" posted its first back-to-back victories over the NBC program in 16 years in Total Viewers (since 2Q97 and 3Q97) and in nearly 20 years in Adults 25-54 (since 1Q94 and 2Q94).

During 4Q13, "This Week" outdelivered "Meet the Press" 6 times in Total Viewers, scoring its most number of victories during a 4th quarter in 17 years - since 4Q96.

For the 2nd quarter in a row, "This Week" built on the previous quarter (3Q13 - 2.535 million and 701,000, respectively for 3Q13) in both Total Viewers (+15%) and Adults 25-54 (+15%). In fact, "This Week" posted its most-watched quarter in nearly 5 years - since 1Q09.

"This Week" improved on the year-ago quarter in Total Viewers (+7% - 2.726 million for 4Q12) to deliver its strongest 4th quarter performance in 5 years - since 4Q08. In addition, "This Week" grew the most in overall viewers from the year-earlier quarter compared to CBS' "Face the Nation" (+2%), NBC's "Meet the Press" (-10%) and Fox's "Fox News Sunday" (-4%).
