Pope Francis Wants to #BringBackOurGirls

May 10, 2014 4:04pm

Pope Francis today showed his support for the safe rescue of the Nigerian schoolgirls who were kidnapped by Boko Haram nearly a month ago.

The pontiff joined many others, including first lady Michelle Obama, in tweeting the hashtag, which has become a rallying cry for people fighting for the release of the girls.

In her first weekly address, the first lady said she hoped the girls — who risked their lives to get an education — would serve as an inspiration for American students to work harder and appreciate what they’ve got.

Since the girls went missing, the hashtag has been shared more than a million times.
