A long waterspout spinning out of Lake Erie and reaching to the cloud line was visible at sunrise this morning in Ohio, pictured here in images captured by Toledo News Now.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, waterspouts form either in fair weather or during thunderstorms when they are referred to as tornadic waterspouts.

Tornadic types move from land to water, while fair weather waterspouts develops on the surface of the water and works its way up toward cumulus clouds.
