Watch Episode 205 Preview

After nearly two years of production, “NY MED” is back. This fast-paced, eight-part series mostly toggles between the orderly operating rooms of Manhattan’s New York-Presbyterian Hospital – the primary venue for the series – where renowned surgeons perform feats of medical brilliance and the sometimes hectic trauma wards of Newark’s University Hospital where skilled doctors gallantly struggle to treat a flood of gunshot, stabbing and life-threatening trauma cases. The surgeons of “NY MED” never forget that there are limits to what medical science can do and that sometimes their best efforts come up short. In “Episode 205,” which airs THURSDAY, July 24 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET); viewers will encounter the following patients, doctors and nurses:

It’s just another day at Newark’s University Hospital. First, Dr. Hugo Razo saves a man dying from a blood clot in his lungs and then hustles across the ER to assist security guards restraining a violent patient. Meanwhile his ER colleague, Dr. Tiffany Murano treats a flirtatious patient with a sports injury and a wife who is just about out of patience. Later, Dr. Murano’s good humor runs out when a paramedic gets snippy with her.

Arriving by ambulance with an aorta about to rupture, a woman in her late 60s tells doctors that she has finally met the “love of her life,” a widower who is devoted to her. She fears that if she doesn’t make it, fate will have robbed her boyfriend twice. But her surgeon, Allan Stewart, who was enroute to visit his kids, reveals that he is wearing a Superman costume under his clothes. He vows to do a “super” surgery to make this romance last.

Rita Respass-Brown is a devoted and vivacious mother of three grown children who are not ready to let her go. A loving parent and founder of a school in Florida, Rita has everything she could ever want in life. But with her kidneys failing and 100,000 people on the transplant waitlist, Rita’s chances are not good. But an angel might be closer to Rita than she realizes when she learns her son could be a perfect match.

This week, ER doctor Debbie Yi faces heartbreaking disappointment and opens up, for the first time, about her own personal struggle after a patient experiences a similar traumatic loss. But what Dr. Yi doesn’t know is that the future may be brighter than she thinks.  In a surprising twist, viewers will rejoice as  Dr. Yi saves lives and sees her own deepest wishes come true.

Don’t miss “NY MED” on THURSDAY, JULY 24 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

Terence Wrong is the executive producer of “NY MED.” Erica Baumgart is the supervising producer and Monica DelaRosa is the senior series producer. Andy Genovese and Aysu Grodowski are series producers.

Paula Faris Joins GMA Weekend; Bianna Golodryga Leaving ABC News for Yahoo! http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2014/07/paula-faris-joins-gma-weekend/ http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2014/07/paula-faris-joins-gma-weekend/#comments Mon, 21 Jul 2014 13:08:54 +0000 ABCNewsPR http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/?p=523832

ABC News President James Goldston sent the following note to the news division this morning announcing that Paula Faris will join the GMA Weekend anchor team and Bianna Golodryga is leaving ABC News for Yahoo!

Team:

I am pleased to announce Paula Faris will join our GMA anchor team on the weekends, starting Saturday, August 8th.

Paula is a terrific broadcaster, and she’ll continue to report for all our programs and platforms.

This month she delivered unforgettable and colorful accounts from the World Cup, and her popular Real Money reports have shown American families how to save thousands of dollars.

Our audience on the weekends is growing steadily, and GMA is now the most-watched morning newscast on Saturdays and regularly beats Today on Sunday mornings.

I’m delighted Paula is joining our immensely talented team of Dan Harris, Ron Claiborne, Sara Haines and, soon, Rob Marciano.

After 7 years with ABC News, Bianna Golodryga is departing for an amazing new opportunity at Yahoo! as news and finance anchor. Because of our great partnership with Yahoo!, she will continue to appear on our air and will contribute frequent reports to the Yahoo-ABC News Network, the dominant #1 source for news and information online. Bianna has reported extensively on the autoindustry, the housing and credit crises, and financial markets. She has interviewed newsmakers from President Clinton and Warren Buffett to the father of the Boston Marathon bomber. We will celebrate Bianna and her many accomplishments at ABC News on Sunday, August 3rd on GMA.

Please join me in congratulating Paula and wishing Bianna good luck in her new role at Yahoo.

James

ABC News’ “Good Morning America” ranked No. 1 among the morning news programs across all key target demos: Total Viewers (4.864 million), Adults 25-54 (1.800 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.269 million) for the week of July 30, 2014, according to Nielsen Media Research. ”GMA” beat NBC’s “Today” (4.038 million, 1.483 million and 1.188 million, respectively) during the week by 826,000 Total Viewers, by 317,000 Adults 25-54 and 81,000 Adults 18-49.  In fact, “GMA” scored its largest news demo advantage over NBC’s “Today” in more than 6 months (since w/o 12/30/13) and 3rd largest this season.  Additionally, GoodMorningAmerica.com on Yahoo! reached over 19 million users last month.

“GMA” has won in overall viewers and the key adult news demo every week since the end of the 2014 Winter Olympics 20 weeks ago.  Overall, “GMA” has ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers in 102 of the last 106 weeks (since w/o 6/25/12), finishing behind “Today” only during the two weeks of the 2012 Summer Olympics and the two weeks of the 2014 Winter Olympics.  In Adults 25-54, “GMA” has ranked No. 1 in 38 of the 42 weeks of the season, pacing ahead of the No. 1 finishes at the same point of the 2012-13 Season (33 of 41 weeks*).  In Adults 18-49, “GMA” has ranked No. 1 in 8 of the last 12 weeks.

“GMA” was up over the previous week (4.605 million, 1.703 million and 1.227 million, respectively, on w/o 6/30/14) in Total Viewers (+6%), Adults 25-54 (+6%) and Adults 18-49 (+3%).  “GMA” stood as the only program to grow week to week as both “CBS This Morning” (-3%/-4%/-9%) and NBC’s “Today” (-6%/-9%/-8%) posted across the board losses.

“GMA” improved on the year ago week (1.734 million and 1.210 million, respectively, on w/o 7/8/13) in Adults 25-54 (+4%) and Adults 18-49 (+5%).  ”GMA” was also the only program to increase year to year in either demo as both “CBS This Morning” (-13%/-18%) and NBC’s “Today” (-17%/-15%) were down by double digits.

Season to date, “GMA” stands as the No. 1 morning news program for the 2nd-straight year in both Total Viewers and Adults 25-54. “GMA” is leading NBC’s “Today” by 677,000 Total Viewers and 132,000 Adults 25-54. In fact, “GMA” has widened its season margins over “Today” versus the same point last season in Total Viewers by 3% (677,000 vs. 660,000) and in Adults 25-54 by 67% (132,000 vs. 79,000).  Further, “GMA” now leads “Today” by its largest Adults 25-54 season advantage to-date.

”GMA” is posting its largest Total Viewer season margin in more than 22 years and biggest in Adults 25-54 in 22 years over “Today” - since at least the 1991-92 season (Nielsen’s electronic database started on September of 1991) and the 1991-92 season, respectively.

Growing in both measures for the 4th season in a row, “GMA” is up over the same point last season in both Total Viewers (+7%) and Adults 25-54 (+9%).  In fact, “GMA” is seeing its largest overall season audience in more than 22 years and best Adults 25-54 performance in 8 years - since before the 1991-92 season and the 2005-06 seasons, respectively. ”GMA” is also up the most in Adults 25-54 compared to “CBS This Morning” (-2%) and NBC’s “Today” (+7%).

During the week, “GMA” led “CBS This Morning” in Total Viewers by 71%, while more than doubling in Adults 25-54 (+124%) and Adults 18-49 (+136%).

Watch Episode 204 Preview

After nearly two years of production, “NY MED” is back. This fast-paced, eight-part series mostly toggles between the orderly operating rooms of Manhattan’s New York-Presbyterian Hospital – the primary venue for the series – where renowned surgeons perform feats of medical brilliance and the sometimes hectic trauma wards of Newark’s University Hospital where skilled doctors gallantly struggle to treat a flood of gunshot, stabbing and life-threatening trauma cases. The surgeons of NY MED never forget that there are limits to what medical science can do and that sometimes their best efforts come up short. In “Episode 204,” which airs THURSDAY, July 17 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET); viewers will encounter the following patients, doctors and nurses:

Popular New York Presbyterian nurse Diana Costine can win over even the most difficult patients with her upbeat attitude and infectious smile. Lately, however, the redhead from Milton, Massachusetts has been inexplicably losing consciousness and for the first time, finds herself at the center of the story as a patient. Can the doctors of New York Presbyterian solve this true medical mystery?

A young couple, in love since the day they met, has big wedding plans. But their future together is thrown into doubt when cardiac surgeon Len Girardi delivers the news that the groom could drop dead at any time if he doesn’t have a complex but potentially life-saving operation. Their choice and their journey will terrify and amaze you.

Trauma surgeon Ziad Sifri thought he had seen it all growing up in war-torn Beirut. But at Newark’s University Hospital where he works, patients arrive injured by hammers, box cutters and other household tools showing how personal things can get when family or romantic relationships fall apart.

At first glance he looks like a surf bum with his long blonde hair and slightly goofy grin. And this Long Island native is no stranger to the waves. But at New York Presbyterian’s Columbia campus, Brad Zacharia is an elite neurosurgeon finishing a decade of residency in one of the most demanding fields in medicine. Enter Alexander Harrington, a homeless man who spends most nights on the streets in midtown Manhattan. He could end up completely paralyzed if some damaged vertebrae in his neck aren’t repaired. It’s not a problem that Alexander doesn’t have a dime to pay for an expensive surgery costing tens of thousands of dollars. The problem is that he keeps figuring out ways to delay the operation and extend his stay at a hospital he regards as a fine hotel.

Don’t miss “NY MED” on THURSDAY, JULY 17 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

Terence Wrong is the executive producer of “NY MED.” Erica Baumgart is the supervising producer and Monica DelaRosa is the senior series producer. Andy Genovese and Aysu Grodowski are series producers.
