See "Advanced Nutrition and Human Metabolism," 3rd edition, by James Groff & Sareen Gropper (a textbook widley used in university nutrition courses) where it explains that the organic arsenic leaves the body the same way it enters and so doesn’t pose a health risk. Also see the white paper EVIDENCE ON DEVELOPMENTAL AND REPRODUCTIVE TOXICITY OF INORGANIC ARSENIC by the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA), a branch of the California Environmental Protection Agency (Cal/EPA), which makes it clear that the concern is not total arsenic or arsenic per se but "inorganic" arsenic. The inorganic form is the toxic form. Unfortunately, the too many in the media are too often interested in promoting hysteria rather than put the issue into proper context. A total arsenic test cannot determine how much is organically bound and how much is in the inorganic form. An arsenic species test would need to be done to determine this. Unfortunately, this test is more costly and "watchdog" groups more interested in making headlines than following sound science only have products tested for total arsenic. Moreover, it serves their purpose, because a species test may very well undermine the position of these “ambulance chasers” by confirming that there may in fact be no cause for alarm after all. It looks like the two doctors are being mixed up - and every comment seems to do the same??? I'm going back to read and listen again... Dr. Oz apparently has done his homework, and is not fear mongering, but expressing a legitimate concern that should be investigated further. People have a right to know what is in their foods no matter how small a percentage is there. People need to be persistent about knowing, reject genetically modified foods, reject products from countries that have lower standards than our own. Dogs are still dying from Chinese chicken treats!!!! So, why should we trust orange juice from Peru? In case you didn't hear the latest, fungicides may be showing up in that. Trust Dr. Oz - he has our health at heart. So funny that a short time later Dr. Besser had to eat his words. Whole Foods 365 organic apple juice and Gerber Organic apple juice were also found to have arsenic. Dr. Besser acted like an idiot and now he is eating his words. We need doctors like Dr. Oz. The Dr. Bessers of this world can continue to bury their heads in the sand, but I don't want to get my medical advice from them. Dr. Besser owes Dr. Oz a public apology.
