Also, if you had read the article they were talking about barriers that single parents and two working parents have to spending time outside with their kids. Simply put, they aren't home early enough and there is a lot to do when they arrive home. In the old days of two parents, one working, one home, by the time dad got home, the homework was done, dinner prepared, leaving time for outside fun or at least a neighborhood walk or bike ride.
I would say one thing that schools could help with, is not giving so much homework on school nights. By the time kids and parents are home, prepare dinner and clean it up, there isn't much time left for outside and homework.

snewsom2997, so by your logic should everyone who smokes tobacco be denied insurance, as this is surely a known very unhealthy activity and will raise our premiums?

And this is one reason why we cannot pay for healthcare for everyone, people spend their whole live doing unhealthy things, they teach their kids the same behavior, and expect the taxpayer to foot their medical bill. Kids don't want to go outside, parents don't want to go outside, we are a couple generations deep into the TV, Video Game, Internet Culture, for most kids TV, Internet, and Video Games are the most interesting and exciting thing most kids do, after a while just like drug addiction everything else comes in a pale second.
