I 100% have this. I have a feeling of incontrolable rage when people eat around me. Some people aren't as bad. But the sound of swallowing and chewing and gulping seriously makes me want to knock someone unconscious. I don't react to it at work. I bite my tongue. But anyone close to me has been yelled at more than once. I walk away from people often. It is SO much worse if I'm not eating as well. Somehow if we're out to dinner I hardly notice it. But if I'm in a room which is quiet except for someone else eating I feel oppressed. I have a clear memory of this happening in my youth as well. I was in ISS lunch suspension for the first time whe I was like 12 or 13 in middle school. They make you eat in a quiet room with other kids, no talking. I couldn't even begin to eat my own food because of how utterly tortured I felt at hearing everyone else crunching. I felt lie my brain would explode. Its a serious problem and I always just thought of it as a pet peeve and thought well maybe I'm more observant than others or something. And I felt bad cause a lot of the time people were just normally eating. While in my head I'm freaking out at them for ordering a SALAD! I mean, I eat salad, its good for you, but when someone else eats it I hear every little crunch... its really hard.

I am sitting here in disbelief as I read this. Finally, all the research I have been doing and all the help I have been praying for is right here. I can finally put a name on it. I truly thought I was the only one. I have suffered from this ever since childhood. I can remember noises that my Dad made that would irritate me beyond belief. As I grew older, more and more things started to annoy me. Every cough, clearing of the throat, chewing gum, popping gum, dry hacks, fingernail clippers, sneezing, neighbors dogs barking... I could go on and on but it's mainly coughing and hacking that drives me into insanity. I cannot control my emotions when that noise sets me off...I get angry, I throw things, I slam my fist on my desk at work. I try to block them out with a loud fan at my desk or earphones but it usually doesn't help, and I don't want people around me to think I am being rude. No one in the world would understand this if I tried to explain it to them. I wake up at night, dreading to go to work the next day because I don't want to hear my boss "sniffle" all day long. I could go on and on, over the years, the people and the noises that have caused me so much grief. Thank you for running this article. .

my parents thought I was going crazy, my and my brother share the same room where we study but I can't study there because the way he breaths... I don't know what's going on in my head but my heard beat raises and when I put earplugs in and my music volume very high I think I can still hear it, but actualy I don't. I get really angy at him, I shout things at him and sometimes I throw stuff at him ;s Now I finaly know why :D I'm so happy that I'm not alone!! And one more thing. If I have to sleep with an other persone in the same room that breaths very loud I just start to cry :o I don't know why, it can't stand it. it's like at night I can't let the hate out so it turns into tears... Is that also something from Misophonia? cause I thought I was going crazy :p pff, I'm just so happy that I'm not alone!! :D :D

I dread the thought of spring because of the obnoxious sound of birds chirping in the trees next to my apartment. I hate people talking outside my window....whistling, humming, chewing, swallowing, slurping, snoring, just breathing in general, nail biting, nail picking, music with repetitive words, high-pitched girly voices. I think my blood pressure skyrockets and I could just scream. I have had this condition for so many years now. I read where someone else said that they wish they were deaf. I know exactly how they feel. There is too much noise in the world. Ooops....forgot pen clicking.

Wow! I just Googled "annoying clinking spoon" to see what came up. I am completely blown away. Certain sounds bother me intensely. I mean logic could not explain it. Especially people snoring or clinking spoons or silverware on bowls or plates. It is not just an annoyance. It actually fills me with rage that I cannot deal with or understand. It is so bad that I usually have to leave and go somewhere else. I once bunked with four guys for a month in the same room when I was younger. They all snored and I had to go and sleep in the hallway. Always thought there was something wrong with me and I always felt really bad about getting angry because that's not the kind of person I am. I am normally a patient and pretty kind person. The fact that there is even a name for this and that other people deal with it too is a relief. I don't feel so bad now.

Eli-tell your mother that while chewing is natural, it is good manners to eat with her mouth closed. IT is bad manners to chew very loudly and have everyone see what she is chewing. I have relatives like that also and it annoys me amongst other things that I have mentioned previously. I just told my mother about this condition and she was pretty concerned.

I am so overjoyed that this is condition is getting such national attention. I have suffered though twenty years of silent rage. Twenty years of being called OCD, a control freak, and a rageaholic. Twenty years of my mother screaming at me over the dinner table that chewing sounds are natural and I had better get used to them. Just being afforded the simple satisfaction of looking this demon in the face and calling it by name has changed my life immensely, and for the better.

I just found out about this and can only say, thank goodness it just isn't me. the clicking of pens, costant clearing of a throat, chewing....(my poor husband) and other things. This is something that has come on stronger over the years, I don't remember being like this in my younger years and as the days, months, years go, it seems like it just gets worse. UGH!
