I watched the show, loved the show and now have read all the comments, many of them written by nurses. I am NOT a nurse. That being said, if I had to judge Marina I would have to say that she makes for good entertainment....she is an immature, unprofessional, and sloppy nurse, but she is entertaining. That is the sole reason the producers followed her - there are many other nurses in that E.R., but they obviously chose to follow the most entertaining ones for obvious reasons. However, all of that aside - I don't find her particularly attractive or charming, she just comes across as loose and that is what appeals to men. Her constant flirting was cringe worthy, her hoop earrings made me nervous FOR HER, her un-groomed loose hair is just plain unsanitary and what's with the polo shirts? The last time I was in a hospital the nurses wore scrub tops and bottoms. Marina takes liberties that are not only unprofessional and damaging to her career, but also very unsafe. Hopefully her bosses took notice and her behavior and appearance have been cleaned up.

I have only been a nurse for a year and a half. I watched Maria and thought "what did they teach her in school?" Your hair is supposed to be pulled back. Would you want that falling in your open wound or caught in a machine? No. A nurse is not supposed to wear fake nails either, bacteria grow there. These are not points of jealousy, they are points made for excellent patient care. You can comment about old nurses all you want, I have learned some of my most important lessons from them. This is for entertainment and I'm sure we didn't see her doing everything, but I did learn professionalism is about appearance and how you carry yourself. I won't judge her nursing skills on this show but perhaps many nurses could use a safety and appearance refresher.

Jennifer I could not agree more!!! Excellent points.

You, Valerie and Melissa are the kind of nurses that appreciate and honor our profession. I for one am proud and lucky to be a fellow RN.

I know there are more like us who will continue to work toward making that stereotype a thing of the past.

I was also appalled by her behavior. Before anyone tries to blame this or that I am a young very attrative RN myself. I don't care that shes pretty, I know tons of beautiful nurses. It's her behavior and that she is on national TV representing our profession and just refueling the same old image of nurses, that one would hope to have abolished by this day and age. I'm sorry but have respect for yourself and our profession if you are chosen to be on TV for it. It's very disapointing to me.

Tracy - you're quite judgmental yourself - you have no idea how old I am. You assume because I voiced my opinion and said something negative about how ridiculous Marina played for the camera that I am an old cranky nurse. What a fool!!! I just pray that my family never encounters you as a nurse - someone who thinks her gum smacking, hair flipping, large hoop earrings and flirting is not a problem.

Lisa - as I said in my first post the uniqueness is dead on. What is not though is Marina's unprofessional behavior. I am sorry but your last statement made no sense - how are my opinions of ONE nurse on this show clouding my nursing judgement? As far as the docs - I am not a doc so I am not going to critique their behavior.

As I have said TWICE in these posts - the other nurses are professional and realistic. Oh wait who is biased now you did not acknowledge them.

My daughter has, unfortunately, been a pt at Col Babies countess times and NEVER have I encountered an unprofessional nurse or physician for that matter. Those are the people who should be featured.

Some of these posts are very interesting. I cannot believe the ignorance and references to jealousy. Really ladies - have more respect for your profession. If someone like Marina makes you proud - well that is just plain sad.

Michele you're a reflection of how very critical and judgmental older nurses are towards younger nurses in this profession. I'm a registered nurse at NY Presbyterian Hospital- Weill Cornell campus, the exact campus that nurse Marina is filmed at. Not once did I have a problem with her behavior. I just enjoyed the show. Stop being jealous. This program is not solely for the purpose of demonstrating the medical aspects of NY Presby, it has some entertainment purposes as well.

I was appalled at the comment made by one of her co-workers about Marina having a man to "maintain" the lifestyle she wants...talk about stepping women back to the dark ages. Marina....have the lifestyle YOU want and enjoy, not what someone else can "GIVE" to you!! I'm a nurse of 16 years, and I have NEVER looked to patients as a source of dating or if their "hot." So unprofessional!

I watched NYC-Med for the first time last night 8/14/2012 and I enjoyed the show. I happened upon this page and I saw comments directed upon a nurse in particular. I have been an RN for six years. I am one of the youngest nurses on my unit and I look even younger than my age. I have been the recipient of some less than admirable behavior by my senior staff RNs because of my age and looks. That being said, based on what I saw all of the nurses filmed including Marina looked nice. Clearly, if you know you are being filmed you put a little extra into your appearance. Marina is a nice looking lady, if her actions endangered a patient let the New York State board of Nursing and the administration of Col-Pres admonish her. If she had not followed protocol with the chest pain patient and its documented on film she would be liable for malpractice. She apparently is competent enough to carry on with her duties b/c she remains employed. No mention was made of the handsome Drs. Watkins and Yang. I sure they scrubbed up well for filming. @ Michele & @ Valerie - What was unrealistic in the ED? The belligerent alcoholic pt or the frequent fliers or the staff coming together to mourn a long time patient ? All of it was representative of your standard busy ED. Ladies it is imperative that we not let our biases towards an attractive woman cloud our nursing judgement.

I apologize - I should have prefaced that my comments were geared towards people who have the knowledge, intelligence and ability to comprehend what I was referring to. Such a person would praise the other nurses on the show. THEY actually represent the nursing profession a respectable fashion.

Sadly, Marina's behavior on the show clouds any good she may do as a nurse. Only a fool would want a nurse who would rather chat and flirt with a patient with chest pain instead of one who will get to work and proceed with protocol to treat the patient.

Sadly, your words show your jealously of those of us in the profession. So funny and sad at what ignorance is in this world today. Of course you would want to see Marina in Miami. Enjoy - I on the other hand prefer to see the nursing interventions and actions that save patients' lives in each episode.

I noticed that there are always a few "nurses" that have negative things to say about the show. Hint Hint. Maybe as a medical professional you should be concentrating on the medical aspect of the show and not your negative opinions on a nurses beautiful hair, and fans praising her, because I surely praise her! Move on folks, its obvious that people sense jealousy when nurse like yourselves talk this way. They are obviously on the show for a reason. You nurses are obviously NOT on television for a reason. Not sure if your parents ever taught you that jealousy gets you nowhere. NY Med nurses keep doing what you are doing, I look up to you all! PS: Marina, I cant wait to see you in Miami next episode!!
