I actually had the same thing happen to me a long time ago when I was a teenager. I was stupid and thought that I'd standing for a few minutes in the "tanning booth" at the local "Y" would be a good way to get some UV-light to battle the mid-winter blues and maybe perk up my complexion. I'm blond and fair skinned - never stopped to think that four or five minutes in the booth would do any harm other than maybe get a little pink color. I was so wrong. My eyeballs were literally burned. And just like Cooper, I awoke in the middle of the night with my eyes on fire, like they were filled with scratchy sand, burning, tearing and very swollen. It was like looking through gauze - everything was hazy. Luckily there was a doctor in the house who treated my eyes with a gentle wash and steroid drops. But it felt like I was blind for nearly a week.. Very Scary! People who use tanning beds should ALWAYS use goggles to cover their eyes. Better yet avoid the booths and beds like the plague.
