Or maybe some women who are overweight have medical issues or are lazy and therefore do less housework instead if the other way round? Sounds like a lack of logic here. "Hey guys, let's put a sexist twist on this. How about instead of the obvious answer that lazy people do less housework and therefore are probably lazy in other aspects such as their health, we can say that women gain weight because they don't do enough housework. That way it actually looks like something different than the first one. I mean we have to guys. Otherwise we will never justify the grant money just telling the world that lazy people don't do housework and are overweight because they don't exercise and eat crappy. Let's flip it. That way it sounds like we uncovered something new and causes controversy because it's sexist to boot." Utter tosh. Insult my intelligence at your peril researchers.

Similar is true for fat dudes....rather than doing yardwork and housework themselves, they spend hours on end with their lardasses planted on the couch watching the tube and/or playing video games all the while pounding beers/sodas/cheetohs.

This sounds like a huge conflict of interest. The media shouldn't even give Coca Cola the time of day, much less report this study as factual.

why are people so sensitive? Why are people trying to be so politically corret? People are overweight because they eat too much and dont move around enough. i personally found the article on the study a understatement to the obvious. Nevertheless, it was a reminder to me that I should do more housework each week. Welcome back 1950- bring it on

I learned all about what makes good research in grad school since that is a large part of my current program and this is NOT a valid nor reliable study. The first issue is Coke funded the study which makes for a conflict of interest and bias. They also did not take into account all the other variables affecting their data such as modern conveniences, availability of fast food and convenience foods, driving distances for kids' activities and environmental factors, etc. They are also relying solely on self-written activity logs which are not always accurate and subject to dishonesty. They only looked at ACTIVITY when there are many other variables affecting the sample population they used for the study.

It also has to do with all the convenience foods we have today and portion sizes. The size of plates has increased dramatically, too. I always use small plates, small portions and natural foods. But, once in a while I have soda. I also run half-marathons so I burn off anything I take in. Moderation!

In 1965 a lot more women were still stay-at-home moms and therefore could spend more time cleaning house than today. There were also a lot less office jobs which required sitting for long periods of time and excessive stress. Lack of time for exercise can also be a factor.

It's not the soda that makes people fat; it's the amount that people drink that puts it on them. No one puts guns to obese people's heads to make them eat tons of food or drink gallons of soda; they do it on their own. Those people have to decide to lose weight, not the government; stop giving them disability for being morbidly obese, and they will have to work it off.
