Tuesady’s ABC Health tweet chat on fighting muscle-wasting diseases was joined by pop icon Paula Abdul, soap star Brandon Barash and Olympic gold medal gymnasts Nadia Comaneci and Bart Conner. As spokespeople for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, they were working to raise  awareness for a group of diseases that affect nearly 250,000 Americans.

Muscle-wasting diseases weaken the muscles that move the body so that they waste away. One of these nine conditions can strike  anyone at any age, according to the MDA, and when it does it causes debilitating symptoms including loss of strength, disability and deformity.
