First-Time High School Voter Supports Obama

ABC News On Campus reporter Matt Gelb blogs: Diane Floyd voted today with her future in mind. As an 18-year-old senior at Corcoran High School on Syracuse’s south side, she’s in a rare position. Her first-ever chance to vote comes during a pivotal election and, like her classmates, Floyd said she is excited at the chance to elect the first-ever African-American president. “I hear Obama talk about college,” she said. “He’s going to make it easier to go to college. I want to go to college. I don’t know which college yet, but I want to go to college.” Floyd was one of many high school students to vote for the first time at Corcoran today. “If you don’t vote and the person you wanted to win lost by one vote, then you could have made a difference,” Corcoran senior Henry Bradley said. “It’s important for everyone to vote if they can.” Corcoran housed one voting booth on the bottom floor of the school. Faculty and students along with local residents from the neighborhood voted in between classes and lunch breaks. “I hope the line isn’t that long,” Floyd said this morning before she voted, “but I’d rather wait than not vote.”

I HATE OBAMA he is a disgrace to this nation and anyone who would vote for him is out of their freaking minds! How stupid can you be to vote for someone who isnt even american?! Mccain was a prisoner of war longer than obama has been in politics! he is in no way shape or form going to be a good president! this has nothing to do with the fact that he is black for all you racist black people out there, get some sense and realize that this country will fail with this stupid socialist IDIOT as our president!!!!!!!!

It’s always amazing to me when someone who cannot correctly write calls others “stupid” and “idiot.” And what punctuation! Obama was born in Hawaii. Last time I checked, whoever was born there is considered an American. All caps … my, my, what screaming. Socialist? I suppose Franklin D. Roosevelt was a communist, then.

Amanda Hamill – your commenst about Obama speaks more about you than it does about him. And here’s the fact – McCain was not born in neither a US state or a US colony…he was born in the Panama Canal. Obama was born in Hawaii – a US clony. Now who is/isn’t American? A real war hero is one who isn’t captured; and if captured – escapes, not released.

If all you have to say is my puncutation is bad then you have made no point. How in any way is obama american? he is NOT! PLEASE EXCUSE MY CAPS! HE MAY BE AN AMERICAN CITIZEN BUT HE WAS RAISED MUSLIM, HE IS FOR KILLING INNOCENT CHILDREN, AND HE IS FOR GAYS GETTING MARRIED. THAT IS NOT WHAT OUR COUNTRY WAS FOUNDED ON AND I DON’T THINK THAT JUST BECAUSE THERE ARE STUPID PEOPLE LIKE YOU IN OUR COUNTRY DOESN’T MEAN WE SHOULD CHANGE OUR VALUES. OBAMA SUCKS!!!!!!!! HE’S GOING TO HELL SO GO RIGHT ALONG WITH HIM!!!!

McCain wasn’t born in the Panama Canal, he was born in the Panama Canal ZONE – controlled (effectively owned) by the US until 2000. Hawaii isn’t a colony, it’s a state – and has been for over 50 years. Being held prisoner doesn’t qualify one for public office. Neither does the ethnicity of one’s parents.

Apparently the election will be decided in large part of the vote of our youth, this is both good and bad. Good in that it gets people involved, bad in that they often haven’t been around enough to know what they are voting for.
I fear that when voters vote for what benefit they will get from it we are in deep trouble but then again stagnant wages, outsourcing of too,too many jobs have taken their toll.
If Obama wins I will say congrats and pray that he makes wise, thoughtful decisions. We are a great country.

More young people were swayed by the Obama message! While I disagree with his policies and his ideas on governing, his ability to connect with the youth vote was amazing. The generation gap hurt McCain along with a lousy economy and a failed president. People got what they wanted, but expectations are going to be great for a guy is going to be very green with the international scene. Hope he stays well President Biden is too scary to imagine!

Keep posting, Amanda. With thoughtless folks like yourself revealing your ignorance and intolerance so readily, there is very little the rest of us need to do but sit back and watch the blue states pile up. Enjoy the election, sweetheart.

Being a Muslim (which Obama is not) doesn’t affect YOU. Neither does the official status of same-sex relationships – it DOES NOT AFFECT YOU. And how does supporting diversity “kill innocent children”?

Posted by: Tommy Logic | November 4, 2008, 9:34 pm 9:34 pm

Me the idiot?! I think not. You are the stupid one who is supporting a baby killing, gay loving, muslim who is going to tear up this country. Maybe my vote isn’t enough for mccain, but it was enough to cancel out your stupid liberal self. He may give a good speech, but so did Hitler.

I am very scared and worried about the future of the United States as it appears that Barack Obama will be our next President. I’m scared because I feel his beliefs are socialist at their core and fundamentally against everything that has made the USA great. Unfortunately, too many American’s no longer understand the true foundation of our great country and therefore don’t realize it. I don’t blame those who voted for Obama in all cases, but I do blame a failed and corrupt education system with regards to revisionist American history and civics education. our economy will fail much like France has endured as companies will have to leave our borders even faster to remain competitive in a global economy. We’ll learn from this I hope but the lesson will be painful. I will pray that we learn a quick lesson on the pain will not be too great for too many. We have lost our way at the moment, as we did in the 1960′s. We found it to some extent after that and we will hopefully do so again, to an even greater extent that we did before.

Abortion is killing innocent children STUPID! if you want to support someone like that then go right ahead but our country is making a horrible choice if they choose obama. His muslim values will reflect on our country and gay marriage is wrong nomatter what anyone has to say about it. Gay marriage is wrong, abortion is wrong, and voting for a muslim (and yes he is do some research) is WRONG! good night i have better things to do than to talk to idiots who believe obama’s bull crap

Jack:
I can’t believe no one’s commented on your little diatribe yet. I hope no POW or anyone who has ever served in the military reads your completely insensitive comment. I can’t believe you have the audacity to suggest that POWs aren’t war heroes. They are some of our bravest and most dedicated soldiers. I know I would not ever want to be in their places; I truly admire them. You say, “A real hero is someone that escapes.” Seriously, do you know anything about the conditions over there? They are lucky to have even survived. You try living with severe injuries, no medical care, in a concrete cell, stewing in your own waste, being tortured daily, and living on little more than rice gruel for ANY period of time, and then we’ll see what you have to say. This isn’t even saying anything about the psychological torture of it all. I bet you any person who has ever served in the military would disagree with you in an instant on who the heroes are. I’m not even talking about John McCain. Yes, I am thankful for the years that he gave – as they say, “freedom isn’t free” – but I’m more concerned about your severe lack of respect for ALL the men and women who have served our country and for the sacrifices they’ve made that allow you to have the freedoms that you enjoy today. No, this country isn’t perfect, and we’re not in a perfect situation right now, but without men and women sacrificing themselves and their lives (either by giving it or by spending it in military service), we would be a HELL of a lot worse off than we are today. Please think before you speak, or keep your trivial comments to yourself.

Jack: I apologize, you were not the one who made the horrendous comment. I made an error in reading how the posts were credited. I meant to address my comment to “AhSuWiSeeIt”. Again, I am very very sorry to have attributed such a disrespectful opinion to you.

Kudos to Jack! My point exactly! People have long saluted the fact that McCain was a POW, but have ignored what put him into that position.
“A real war hero is one who isn’t captured; and if captured – escapes, not released.” Jack
McCain- The Infamous POW!
Obama – The 44th President of the United States of America!
Barack the United States!

There is a classy way to win and a classy way to lose. The Obama supporters should be pleased with their apparent victory though should take note that the popular vote will still be rather close and there are a lot of states that are choosing McCain over your candidate. As a McCain supporter, we have to realize that something has changed the mindset of our fellow Americans to support Obama, despite his views that are contrary to our comprehension. Rather than bicker with words and demeaning statements, we need to focus on the implications of this election for all. I won’t support Obama’s policies for the most part and I fear where he’ll take us, but I will not be like so many Democrats (not all I should emphasize) who refuse to respect the Presidency. Do I like or agree with Obama? No, but I have to find it in me to be bigger than my discouragement and when I can’t be supportive, be respectfully working to correct the errors among the American people that made him electable.

The first terrorist was George W. Bush….
more than 4,000 soldiers dead and even more civilians.

My name is also Amanda Hamill age 46 in North Carolina. I fully support Obama and do not want anyone reading this site to think that I am associated or related to this other Amanda Hamill who obviously has issues. Thanks

I wouldn’t trust anyone who thinks partial birth abortion is ok. Anyone who thinks it is ok to wrap a cord around a baby’s neck and choke it to death while in the womb at the end of the second trimester is an ANIMAL..plain and simple
