‘Tebow Don’t Go’ Sends the Message
ABC News On Campus reporter Miles Doran blogs: The Web site is simple and so is its message: Don’t go, Tebow. “Dear Gator Nation,” the letter to fans on TebowDontGo.com begins. “Let’s show Tim Tebow how much the Gator Nation wants him to return for his senior year. We all know how passionate Tim is — tell him how passionate Gator fans are about wanting him to come back next year.”
It’s signed "sincerely, Fred ‘Gator Fred’ Marks." Gator Fred has Gator blood. He graduated from the University of Florida in 2004. His father graduated in ’72. And his father graduated in ’39. So did his mom, sister, aunt and uncle.
With the recent talk of UF quarterback Tim Tebow possibly leaving the Gators to join the NFL before his senior season, Fred said he would be devastated if Tebow left. So he bought TebowDontGo.com and started an online petition to keep Tebow in school.
“Tim Tebow is a role model and as such should return for his senior year and graduate to set a good example,” he said. Tebow has said he won’t make a decision until after the national championship game. He recently told ESPN.com “Win or lose, there’s going to be a lot to come back and play for … There’s a chance to go for three out of four [national championships], which isn’t bad. If you lose, you have a chance to come back here and get your second. Either way, it would be fun."
Fred says when “enough” signatures are collected, he’ll deliver the petition to Tebow. As of Thursday, the day of the BCS national championship game, more than 3,000 people have signed the online petition.
“He can run for touchdowns throw for touchdowns and spends his spring break with orphans. What a terrific human being. Now if we can just convince Tebow to not go pro and return for his senior year, he will have a complete college career.”
