Packing for Inauguration Day

So here’s The Juggle: packing for inauguration day. I’ve got long underwear, heavy scarf, hat, gloves, chapstick… Reporters note book, iPhone, FlipCam & laptop.

And, in the meantime, life does not stop…

After a flurry of phone calls and emails, I’ve scored three sets of tickets for inaugural balls for me and my producer Jim DuBreuil. My friend Andrea at Lifetime hooked me up with tickets to the Creative Coaltion Ball, which they’re sponsoring. My friend Ellen at Google got us two e-tickets to the Google/Youtube ball. And my friend Jane at ABC News’ D.C. bureau is setting aside two tickets for the Obama home states ball.

Now, what does a roving digital reporter wear to the balls?? I could do black tuxedo gown — warm’ish and practical — or I could go with the fushcia sleeveless ball gown — neither warm nor practical.

I’m concerned about the street shutdowns. People are warning of major traffic tie ups… And lots of walking. No Manolo’s. More like Easy Spirit. Or Uggs (ok, I don’t even own Uggs).

I’m even MORE concerned about connectivity issues on the National Mall during the actual inauguration.  How does a DJ (digital journalist) cover the event if there’s no cell service?? It’s not about volume, which will be historic. It’s about the secret service jamming signals for security reasons on the Mall.

Any tips?
