Should A Widow Wear Wedding Ring on Right Hand?

Dear Liz,

When becoming a widow, do you have to take your wedding rings off?  Someone told me that you put them on your right hand. Is that true?

Hi, thanks for asking.  In answer to your question, yes, there are widows who move their wedding rings from their left hand to their right. The gesture is often a symbol of commitment to their loved one for a lifetime rather than just the length of the marriage.  Some people even remarry and leave the ring on their right hand and wear their new rings on their left. Others take off the ring when they meet a new partner, while others leave the ring on their left hand their whole life.   There is no right or wrong for this situation. The amount of time one wears their ring on either hand after the death of a spouse is entirely up to the person. Whatever feels comfortable; whatever feels soothing and right for the individual.

I hope this answers your question!

Great things for you,

Liz
