This week we’re celebrating the 50th anniversary of Julia Child’s “Mastering the Art of French Cooking.” Child, the food icon responsible for bringing classic French food into our homes with her cookbook, is one of the best-known names in food. She is loved and respected around the world for her work, and many chefs credit her for inspiring them to pursue cooking.

A frequent face on “Good Morning America,” Child was adored by news anchors and audiences alike. Watching the video below, you can see how much everyone loved and appreciated her accomplishments. From traveling around the world to preparing a simple omelet, Julia Child brought gourmet food into American kitchens.

One of the reasons everyone loved watching Child was her honest approach to cooking. Even the most skilled chefs have difficulties in the kitchen, and Julia showed us how to acknowledge our cooking mistakes and how not to take ourselves too seriously. We watched, learned, and laughed alongside her.

Join us this week as we celebrate Julia Child’s contributions to the world of food with her cookbook and to our homes on “Good Morning America.” Recreate some of her famous dishes like her Beef Bourguignon or her Coq au Vin right your kitchen.
