Idaho Family Beats 11-1 Birthday Odds

They say good things come in threes.  But for one Idaho family, good things come in threes, and ones.

Meet the Barnes family of Pocatello, Idaho.

The family’s newest member, Joslyn Barnes, was born Tuesday, Nov. 1.

Joslyn is the first, or No. 1, child born to Nicole Barnes, who also happens to have been born Nov. 1.

“I didn’t think she was going to come until next week,” Barnes told Idaho Falls’ ABC affiliate Local News 8. “It’s just so special for us to be able share this same day and celebrate.”

Nicole Barnes knows something about the uniqueness of sharing a birthday, because her mom, Joslyn’s grandmother, was also born Nov. 1.

“Growing up it was one of the first things I would tell people,” Barnes recalled.  “That me and my mom share the same birthday would always get attention.”

“3? generations, born on “1? day that just happens to be “11-1.”  What are the odds of that happening to “1? family?

“3?00,000 to “1,” according to Dr. Trevor Robinson, the doctor who delivered Joslyn.

“It’s pretty rare. I’ve never had any of my other patients do that before,” he said.

Joslyn’s birthdate of 1-1-11 was already a special date given its palindromic notation.

With mom, grandmother and Joslyn each claiming a “1? in Joslyn’s 1-1-11 birthdate, what about that fourth, extra “1??

Well, that would belong to Dr. Robinson, who also happens to be a Nov. 1 baby.
