When you hear the word "mom," does the image of a well-dressed, put together woman come to mind? Or is a disheveled lady wearing yoga pants, a stained T-shirt with holes and a sports headband a more appropriate description?

Well, if your answer is the latter, you need to stop right where you are and listen up, because moms are about to make history during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

Yes, you heard me correctly.

I did just use the words "moms" and "fashion" in the same sentence, on purpose.  Because Thursday at 3 p.m., the look of motherhood is going to be redefined at the first-ever Strut: The Fashionable Mom Show at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center.

How did something like this come to be?  Denise Albert and Melissa Gerstein of The Moms, a multiplatform lifestyle brand, were looking to showcase everyday fashion for real moms after experiencing how different their own lives were after they had children.  So The Moms put even more energy behind their idea, partnering with Mom-entum, a division within social media agency Big Fuel, and Getting Gorgeous, a website founded by two top fashion and beauty bloggers.

When they brought the idea to Lincoln Center Fashion Director and IMG Consultant Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, also a mom, she instantly loved the concept and Strut: The Fashionable Moms Show was born.  The event will be hosted by mom and supermodel Iman, and she will be joined by celebrity and non-celebrity moms who will show off a collection of designers who are intended to be realistic for today's moms.

And, in true mom fashion, the women will be multitasking at the event, not only walking the catwalk, but using social media to reach an estimated 4 million moms online.

Designers and top consumer brands such T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, Matrix and Clorox are all sponsors of the event.  And Tory Burch, Rachel Roy, Vera Wang, Douglas Hannant, Rebecca Minkoff, Gap, Laundry, Michael Kors, David Meister, Ramy Brook, The Children's Place, Quinny, BCBG, Monica Botkier , Hatch by Twobirds, Pea in the Pod, Coldwater Creek, Bela Bum Bum, and Ingrid & Isabel are providing looks for the runway that are available in-stores and online.

And full disclosure here.  As a full-time working single mom of a 14 month old, I must tell you that if left unsupervised, I am the woman with the unwashed hair wearing yoga pants, and that stained T-shirt all weekend long . So I am very excited to cover the event.  You can see all of details right here ABCNews.com after the show.
