Wow! As a mom of 3 that breastfeed.. I find this very hard to accept as normal. I am sorry but I think this is more an issue for her not the child. I just don't understand why she feels this is necessary. If he is old enough to drink from a cup , feed himself and go potty. Why do this? There is other healthy ways to feed your child. Just because he/she ask for it doesn't mean it is right. I just find this weird! Why not teach him to eat and drink as a big boy? I really think this is very co-dependent behavior on her part. It brings me great joy to watch my children grow and learn how to be self sufficient and want to become their own person. They took great pride in things that made them feel "big" and that they could accomplish these things on their own. I just don't get it!!!

As a mom who was not able to conceive but became a mom through adoption, I find the caption "Are You Mom Enough?" extremely insulting. I'm sure all the moms out there you desperately wanted to breastfeed but couldn't find this insulting as well. Being a mom isn't about breastfeeding. It's about being able to love another human being with all your heart and soul even if that child has none of your DNA. The thing is I don't feel a need to insult or act superior to other moms the way some breastfeeding moms do. As for all the children out there who were adopted, they definitely know that their mom is mom enough. Shame on Time for publishing something so hurtful and insulting.

this woman is just a pervert, breast milk don't last forever for god sakes, she just wants someone to suck on her breasts. I mean for god sakes stop breast feeding em once they have teeth, I bet this kid is still sucking her breast when he's 12 years old. CYS STOP This crap, its child molestation pure and simple, you stop breast feeding them when they are able to eat solid food and drink regular milk not when they should be in either preschool or head start

As a working mom, I never would have had the time (nor the inclination) to bf for so many years. That said, I think if the child is old enough to get milk out of the fridge, it might be time to let it go. This is a big social experiment in my mind. Will extended breadfeeding and "attachment parenting" lead to a generation of mamas-boys and Peter Pans? Do women breastfeed their boys longer than their girls? (many of the extended bf stories seem to be boys). Do women in poor countries breast feed because of lack of other food? I for one wouldn't want my children as part of a social experiment and so would go a moderate route (may 1 year or 1 1/2).

I agree with the child protective services comment and the one about tainting the kid for life. Can you say sexual abuse. At what point is enough, enough? Breastfeeding is good for your babies I don't disagree with breastfeeding, but there is such a thing as too much of a good thing. And at a point where it ruins a child for life, becomes inappropriate and causes other psychological issues which follow them into adulthood.

The comment about how Time went with a model-attractive recent-college-grad mom, and a nearly 4-year-old BOY for the cover is an interesting one.

The irony that will haunt them both, especially Aaron as he gets into his teen, college and adult years, is that Jaime's purpose in shooting the picture was to increase buzz around hyper-involved attachment parenting approaches, yet she probably won't have a more epic parenting fail than the decision to taint her son with this image for the rest of his life. Why didn't Aaron have the same choice about the cover photo that Jaime insists he has regarding breastfeeding. Please check out the SNL skit they did last weekend on this article...

I can't believe they are making such a huge deal about this. The boy is 3, not 5 or 8, though honestly even that is the parent's choice, and not for people to get super-involved. My mother breastfed me until I was 3.5 yrs old, and it is not uncommon in many countries to do so for various reasons. There is so much more in the world to concern ourselves with, and I don't understand the uproar over a woman's personal choice! Though, to be fair, Time probably put this picture on the cover just for that reason - to attract attention. Just let it go..

this country is FULL of maladjusted, sexually repressed people. This disgusts you? You would call the police? I despair that the mainstream of this nation will EVER emerge from the 1950s - the decade of my birth so I am no young fanatic. Molestation? Ask yourself - and be HONEST with yourselves - would you consider this molestation if this young mother was nursing a thrree year old daughter. If not, then get over it, get a life, get on with things. If so, I am truly sorry for you - you are to be pitied as a narrow-minded, repressed, inhibited meddling busy-body.

It is a beautiful photograph - the family is to be admired.
