Andrew, you are right. Security should be the airline's priority. If they love their dogs so much and want to take them on vacation or while moving, then travel by car. Pitbull owners live in denial.

Andrew, your ignorance is shining through. Little "yippy" dogs cause more damage than pits every year!

Andrew, your idiot slip is showing. Large breed dogs don't travel in the airline cabin (they are shipped as cargo in locked kennel crates) unless they are service/therapy dogs. Service/therapy dogs receive extensive training and are temperament tested, which means whether they are pit bulls or not, they are safer than the average family dog of any breed.

What bothers me about the wording of the new regulation is that the kennels/crates for restricted breeds cannot be plastic. To my knowledge, there are no manufacturers who make metal travel kennels. And the airline transport of dogs is based on the weight of the dog and the kennel, so it could be very cost prohibitive for many, which means dogs may be left behind, abandoned, or sent to shelters to be killed. It sounds like the wording was carefully chosen so they really haven't made any positive changes at all. Typical lip service.

yes, andrew... pitbulls are the number one safety concern on an aircraft. Actually the species with the WORST HISTORY of attacking people... are, well people. Besides, I guess you never heard of the shih tzu that ripped into the greeter at walmart, or the lab in france that caused the FIRST facial reconstruction surgery to be performed. Plus, did you know there are several service dogs that are in fact pitbulls? they are aides to veterans, children with disabilites (like autism), therapy dogs, search and rescue dogs. However, when me and my pitbull fly united, I will rest knowing I won't have to deal with the likes of you.

United should have kept the ban. I don't want to be on a flight with a dangerous Pit Bull in the cabin. These dogs have the worst reputation for attacking and killing people and other dogs. I will never fly United again until they reinstate the ban against this dangerous breed of dog. Safety should be number one when it comes on to air travel.
