Bar Harbor is great, don’t get me wrong, but there’s so much more in Maine other than the Portland area and Bar Harbor, but tourists (and even the state doesn’t encourage it) don’t seem to know about it. You want to see the real Maine, go off the beaten path and outside the cramped tourist towns.

You should post about the smaller towns such as Lubec, Maine who have beautiful hotels on the water at a far lower price than Bar Harbor. The Inn at the Wharf, Cohills Inn, and Water Street Tavern and Inn are all located on the bay and are priced around $100-$150 a night. Lubec has a feeling of Bar Harbor with it’s small gift shops and various restuarants Franks Dockside Dinner and Uncle Kippy’s. Lubec is a beautiful town, and worth visiting and staying for a while!

You should be promoting the many smaller fine accommodations that Bar Harbor has to offer. One comes to mind; the Castlemaine Inn on Holland St. It’s a typical luxury accommodation with every wonderful small town accessory. The West Street Hotel displaced the real atmosphere of Bar Harbor when it was built by a newcomer mufti-millionaire that doesn’t appreciate the small town atmosphere of Bar Harbor. Any of the small owners would appreciate and need the business more than a guy that comes to town just for the profit.

You can get the views anywhere on the island so look for a better deal. I’ve been to Bar Harbor dozens of times since I was 4 years old. It’s one of the most beautiful towns in the east.
