Go have fun please! You still have up to 18 years to go! At 10wks I personally don't think the baby will boycott like some of these women who are flabbergasted at the idea!

I love how anyone can write a book and people will read it and follow their advice.

This lady doesn't seem like she's read a single child development book. There are years of scientific study that shows how bad this can be for baby development.

I left my newborn son at 6 weeks for the weekend to stand in my friend's wedding. He and I are very close and at 3, he has not shown any signs of long term damage. It was wonderful to be away for a couple days with my husband, and be able to rest and relax.

While I'm not sure I could have gone out of country with a 10w old at home, who cares what someone else does?? I'd love to have a couple days of sleep at this point, and our new baby is just 4w old!

The first six months is important for bonding. Work and vacation is different. Work you come back home each day. Vacation you won't see the bady for days. You might not see the effects now, yet later. 10 weeks is way too early. I'm not sure how you feel, but after my hours at work, I can't wait to see her. I'm a single mother with a disability.

I've been wanting to post for the girl on Jersy Shore regards to breastfeeding. It is the best thing that a mom can do for her child. Pumping alone will not keep the milk flowing. I still nurse her at 20 months and in public too. My take is that everyone has breast, just different in size and so what if she expose my boob.

I find it interesting that when a celebrity gives birth, the media immediatly publishes pictures of her galavanting on the beach with her flavor of the month. They only mention how good "X" celebrity looks so soon after giving birth but nobody ever comments on where the baby is. I bet that, in most cases, the newborn is back in LA or NYC with a nanny. Why does nobody ever criticize celebirty moms yet judge what a "normal" mom does?

If I had had the means and opportunity to have done the same I would have. It is important for babies to form a bond of trust not only with their mother and father, but also with the grandparents, the aunts the uncles or whomever is the responsible caregiver is that will be spending time with your child as they grow. To be the only sole caregiver of a child isn't exactly healthy for anyone- parent or child. As long as whoever the baby is left with is truly trustworthy, I think it is ok to take a load off for a few days.

I agree with Jennifer. I am a first time mom to a 10 week old, and while I wouldn't personally choose to go on vacation right now (with or without my daughter), I don't think it's anyone else's business. She's not running off to Mexico indefinitely. If that's how other people go on vacation, color me jealous because mine don't last longer than a week!

Really?! We have nothing better to worry about when there is true abuse and neglect going on every day?

I am an OB/GYN and feel very strongly that the health of the mother DIRECTLY affects the health of the newborn. I am also the "bread winner" in the family. I was back to work one week after giving birth to both of my children, and left them both with their grandparents at 8 and 5 weeks respectively. They were each placed in daycare at 6 weeks old as well. Now they are 5 and 2 years old. My daughter is a kind, sensitive and nuturing child showing advanced reading and math skills. My two year old son thinks I "hung the moon" and is also a loving, trusting and caring child. My daughter truly benefitted when we left my newborn son at five weeks and took her on a Disney cruise. Their was much less animosity between siblings as they were both made to feel important. I am amazed that any person would truly think leaving a child with a responsible caretaker at an early age for a short period of time has any affect on an infant. It is preposterous.
