Resolution: "I will lose weight this year"
Solution: "Don't diet…change your lifestyle"
This is the time of year when many of us resolve to lose weight and exercise more. How many years has this been your resolution? Isn't it discouraging to set a goal, NOT accomplish it only to set it again next year? Of course it is!! How about rephrasing this resolution to "I will strive to be healthier this year." The weight loss will be a secondary benefit! It's like that line from the Kevin Costner movie "If you build it…they will come", "If you do what's necessary…you will be healthier."
I'm talking about "A lifestyle change…not a diet." Trust that your body knows what's good for it and fuel it with the energy it desires to produce fantastic results. Start an exercise regimen by walking outside or on a treadmill for 15-20 minutes with the goal of increasing to 30-60 minutes. Don't psych yourself out by "biting off more than you are ready to chew" (figuratively and literally). In my opinion 95 percent of eating healthy and being healthy is motivation and willpower…most people don't want to admit this! As soon as you are convinced that you have to exercise and you have to make healthy food choices, you are on the path to long-lasting success.
Here are my simple, painless steps you can take to get started on this path to lifelong success:
