Home to an assortment of bagels and donuts, Dunkin’ Donuts is testing two new gluten-free products in select stores.
“A few select Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants in the Boston and Miami areas are currently carrying gluten-free muffins and donuts. These include Blueberry Muffins and Cinnamon Sugar Donuts,” said a Dunkin’ Donuts spokesman.
The Gluten Free South Florida Facebook group warns: “Donuts are DANGEROUSLY DELICIOUS!!!! Must try!!!!!!”
Frank Guttenberg, a local franchisee commented on page, “I am a local franchisee who has worked with the brand for two years after my son was diagnosed with Celiac. We are close but the brand needs to complete all of the testing. It will be in other locations soon but for now the initial test is a small test to make sure we do this properly. I am fortunate to have a chance to do this in my Miami stores but hang tight it will hit the broader market in the not to [sic] distant future.”
The cinnamon sugar donuts sell for under a dollar each.
In October, the company applied for a trademark for “Bagel Bunchkins,” the bagel version of their popular Munchkins donut holes. In November, they released a holiday menu which included red velvet cake donuts and gingerbread coffee drinks.
Dunkin’ Donuts isn’t the first nationwide chain to go gluten-free. Wendy’s, Chick-fil-A and Burger King all have gluten-free options for customers.
