I honestly believe his story… First he is from a different country. I have friends from different countries and sometimes when speaking we are on different levels. Secondly, he offered collateral… an iPhone! Third, stealing would consist of actually running off the premises.. he simply informed them of the situation and said how he could resolve it. Like what? AND lastly he was in a lawyer in Italy, I bet he had enough money to cover the charges. Work with people, it will get you a lot farther in life than not. Apparently the people running the joint are robots walking around who are too stuck up and never make mistakes. I won’t be going to this restaurant when I want a meal in nyc. I hope he didn’t leave a tip, heh.

Apparently all the commenters didn’t read the last part of the article where the police dept made a statement saying the customer did have his wallet and refused to pay the bill…..yadda yadda yadda…..

Again i have to comment these are the same NY cops who dont help tourist, push over bike riders, shoot innocent ppl and when they try and shoot and armed criminal shoot everyone else in the area… and they wonder why everyone hates them? Im sure there are some good guys but come on.

I believe the tourist not the police. Sorry. I left my wallet at home and the gas station was kind enough to let me leave to return and pay. I am grateful and always tip those guys. Seems like people these days including the police are really losing the plot – noone has a common sense anymore, so i guess the term now is uncommon sense!

Smith & Wollensky, has dramatically declined, not only in its manner of operation, but in food quality as well. It comes as no surprise this sort of rude behavior occurs, or that the guy might have actually been dissatisfied with his meal.
