Express Beauty Treatments: 'GMA' Tries Quick Manicure, Makeover, Laser Facial

ABC News' Becky Worley reports:

Mani-pedis. Facials. Waxing. Threading. Makeovers. Beauty treatments are everywhere, but they can take lots of time and most of us just don't have it to spare.

Leave it to salons in Los Angeles to launch a new trend in beauty services: express treatments.

Laser Facial in Fraction of the Time: $75

Skin Laundry is a chain that's launching in Los Angeles to deliver high-end laser facial services in 10 minutes. While a traditional laser peel can take an hour or more and leave you red and peeling for days, Skin Laundry's founders say their treatment takes just 10 minutes and leaves your skin looking clean and fresh with no redness or downtime.

Their laser is set on a lower intensity than with a traditional laser peels. Co-founder Chris Carey says it's effective.

"We really believe in more regular treatments than super-invasive treatments, say, once a year. With Skin Laundry, you're going to come more consistently but you're going to see better results and you don't have to plan around it. You can come on your lunch break," he said.

Dermatologist and co-founder Dr. Elson Lai performed the facial on me. He said the treatment was "actually going deep into the tissue, stimulating the collagen so it makes you tighter, closes up the pores, and also goes after pigment, which evens out your skin tone."

It's not too painful, but I feel pins and needles and smell burning flesh, a sign, Lai says, that the top layer of my skin is being removed. After the treatment I feel no pain and my skin isn't red or blotchy. It feels clean and smooth.

The day after, I can't really feel or see a difference, but the founders say that's to be expected. "I just believe that more consistent, less invasive treatments are going to give you a better result in the long term," Carey says.

"It's very common if you go to the gym. If you work out super hard one day, you're going to be down for a while, you're going to be hurting. But if you go lightweight, and less repetition, it's kind of a better way to get where you want to be."

Professional Makeup in 20 Minutes: $20

Blushington is a Beverly Hills, Calif., makeup salon owned by Stephanie Maron. She wanted a place where professional makeup artists could make all of us feel pretty. While regular treatments can take 45 minutes to an hour, their express service offers a lighter application of makeup in half the time. "Our on-the-go treatment is 20 minutes, twenty dollars. You're getting tinted moisturizer, blush, lips, your eyebrows filled in, a little contour, mascara and that's it."

I sit down in the chair of this beautiful salon. I feel like I'm a Disney princess in this place, and they get to work on me. My first question proves that I am really not the appropriate person to evaluate this treatment: "Is 20 minutes a short amount of time to apply makeup?"

Because I usually only take five minutes to put this stuff on, I honestly have no idea what I'm doing with it, other than eyeliner and mascara. So the idea of professional assistance sounds good, especially for $20.

When I ask Blushington makeup artist Jessica Scantlin what their clientele is like, she says it's definitely people headed to a big event. "We have young girls come in before their prom or bar mitzvah, also we're doing the mom's makeup for her night out," she said.

The results of the make-up are good. Most of her time was spent making the foundation really look natural and shading different areas of my face to bring out my features. I normally don't wear a lot of makeup, so there's a difference in my usual makeup because the express service doesn't include eyeliner, but the overall look is very natural and polished.

Express Manicure in 15 Minutes: $15

The Green Room Salon is tucked into a Los Angeles office building and very low-key. What makes it special is its 15-minute, $7 manicure. They don't soak your fingers or give you a hand massage; it's all business: cuticles, buff, base coat, color and top coat.

But the real clincher to this lunch hour mani? For a few bucks extra, they'll serve you a salad or a sandwich. Nice!
