How do you sell microwaveable snacks? With supermodels, of course! Hot Pocket has jumped on the supermodel bandwagon, teaming up with Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover model Kate Upton and musician Snoop Dogg for an outrageous music video ad.
The ad plays on Upton’s signature girl-next-door appeal and starts out with the model eating a Hot Pocket after returning home hungry from a night out. It quickly descends into the bizarre when she falls asleep and starts dreaming of the snack. Enter Snoop Dogg, as Team Crust, and actor Oliver Cooper, as Team Meat, who battle it out as to which part of the sandwich is best, with Upton posing provocatively in between.
Seemingly unable to choose her favorite part in this delirious dreamland, Upton croons, “You, you both got what I eat. I love your buttery crusty, but I love the meat just as much,” set to the tune of Biz Markie’s hit, “Just a Friend (You Got What I Need).” Host Larry King, rapper Bow Wow, and YouTube star Kevin “KevJumba” Wu all make cameos in the four-and-a-half minute promotion.
This isn’t Upton’s first time selling a mainstream food brand. The supermodel starred in a Carl Jr.’s commercial in 2012, to much media play. If seems as though if you want your brand to go viral, Upton’s your girl. Your move, Domino’s.
