Sally May’s 20 Angora rabbits are cute pets but the gloves and other clothes knitted from their luxurious fur are even cuter.

May, who lives in Salisbury, Wiltshire, England,  shears the rabbits every three months, producing enough Angora for a pair of mittens, according to the Express. She also uses the fur for scarves and hats she gives to family and friends.

The fur fetches $16 a pound, but she declines to sell the fur or the clothing she makes with it because of the difficulty of making it a business.

“I’ve never had more than 20 to 30 rabbits at a time, but over the years I must have had hundreds,” May is quoted as saying in The Express. “That’s the problem, once you’re hooked, life’s not the same without them.”

Recently-released photos show Pomeranians, Bichons and other dogs’ first glimpses of safety after a May rescue from a puppy mill in Estrie, Canada.

The dogs were saved in what was the second largest puppy mill rescue in Quebec history: Over 200 dogs and puppies were rescued in a joint effort by the Humane Society International (HSI) and the Quebec Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. Small breed dogs made up a significant number of the animals rescued, and were allegedly forced to live in stacked, crowded cages exposed to ammonia fumes at the Estrie mill.

“These desperate dogs had skin and eye conditions, infections and matted fur,” said Ewa Demianowicz, campaign manager for Humane Society International Canada. “We are thrilled to be rescuing these dogs and taking them to the safety of our emergency shelter.”

The rescue is the fifth such rescue in seven months by HSI. The organization pinpoints Quebec’s lack of government funding for Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals as a challenge for enforcing welfare standards for animals.

Say cheese!

Judging by this photo going incredibly viral, this hilarious parrotfish is a bit of a diva.

The photobombing fish couldn’t get enough of the spotlight as it smiles big for the camera, totally bogarting the lens from an unsuspecting snorkeler in the background.

Sophia Roth, the owner of a snorkeling company call Snuba in Key West, Florida, captured the epic photo while diving underwater near a coral reef.

And with beautiful, bright blue scales like these, it’s no wonder this parrotfish was ready for his close up.

Aging Bulldog Gets Homemade Stair Lift http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/lifestyle/2014/06/aging-bulldog-gets-homemade-stair-lift/ http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/lifestyle/2014/06/aging-bulldog-gets-homemade-stair-lift/#comments Wed, 18 Jun 2014 20:26:14 +0000 Eliza Murphy http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/lifestyle/?p=113813

Hank the bulldog sure is riding in style.

His owners built this homemade stair lift for their aging pup, who also has a rare heart condition, after noticing he was having trouble getting up and down the stairs on his own.

“It took a couple months of trial and error to build the lift,” Brandon Raper, a family friend, told ABC News of the nifty invention.

Hank’s owner, Holly DiBin, of North Olmsted, Ohio, isn’t exactly sure of the dog’s age because he was picked up as a stray in 2012, but believes he’s between 7 to 9-years-old.

This adorable video of Hank riding his stair lift, clearly not letting his age or heart condition slow him down, is going viral with nearly 185,000 views on YouTube.

A cow who made the wrong “moooove” ended up on the roof of a farmhouse in Switzerland.

The cow was photographed on the roof of the farmhouse near Bern by a bicyclist, Rolf Steiner, who said he was shocked at the sight.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes and had to look three times to make sure I was seeing what I thought I was seeing,” Steiner said, according to the U.K.’s The Mirror.  “A cow on the roof.”

It is not known how the cow managed to climb onto the roof and then stay atop the slanted roof without losing its balance.

The cow reportedly climbed off the roof on its own, much to the chagrin of its owner.

“I tried to coax her off when I first saw her, but she wouldn’t budge,” said the cow’s reported owner, Dieter Mueller, according to The Mirror.  “She had to do things in her own sweet time.”

“And I am left with the bill for replacing the tiles she smashed,” he said.

Woman Climbs Tree to Rescue Cat, Gets Stuck Herself http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/lifestyle/2014/06/woman-climbs-tree-to-rescue-cat-gets-stuck-herself/ http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/lifestyle/2014/06/woman-climbs-tree-to-rescue-cat-gets-stuck-herself/#comments Mon, 16 Jun 2014 17:49:41 +0000 ABC News http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/lifestyle/?p=113741 ap tara dennis stuck tree jc 140616 16x9 608 Woman Climbs Tree to Rescue Cat, Gets Stuck Herself

A Pennsylvania woman who climbed approximately 40 feet to reach a cat stuck in a tree had to be rescued by nine firefighters after she too became stuck.

Tara Dennis, 21, responded Sunday afternoon to the whimpers of a cat stuck in a tree by climbing a fence and a garage roof in order to reach the tree in her Erie, Penn., neighborhood where the cat was stuck.

“I got the cat,” Dennis told The Erie Times-News. “I put it in my shirt.”

Dennis, who could not be reached today by ABC News, did not have as much luck climbing down the tree with the cat, however, and had to be rescued by a team of firefighters who responded to a neighbor’s 911 call.

“A ladder truck and rescue company responded,” Erie Fire Chief Tony Pol told ABC News.  “They used a 28-foot ladder to go up and get her and the cat.”

Neither Dennis nor the cat, whose owner is not known, were injured in the incident, according to Pol.

The fire chief said the lesson learned from Dennis’ scare is that it is best to wait for stranded animals to save themselves.

“The cats will usually come down by themselves,” Pol said.  “They find their way down so we don’t like people taking unnecessary risks of getting hurt or injured.”

“Everything in this story had a happy ending though,” he said.

Cancer-Stricken Beagle Has Doggone Good Time Completing Bucket List http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/lifestyle/2014/06/cancer-stricken-beagle-has-doggone-good-time-completing-bucket-list/ http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/lifestyle/2014/06/cancer-stricken-beagle-has-doggone-good-time-completing-bucket-list/#comments Thu, 12 Jun 2014 19:50:28 +0000 Eliza Murphy http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/lifestyle/?p=113725

They say every dog has its day, but for a beloved beagle in Maryland, that day is today–and every day until it’s time to say goodbye.

“They found a growth and we had it surgically removed and sent it for testing and found out it was cancer,” Essam Shomali, of Towson, Maryland, told ABC News of him and his wife Kathryn’s beloved dog, Little Joe.

The beagle, affectionately nicknamed L. J., has been like a child to the couple since they rescued him in 2012.

“He’s definitely spoiled like a little child. He’s a very good boy,” Shomali explained.

When they found out Little Joe had an aggressive form of cancer called adenocarcinoma, which could return at any time, they realized they wanted their sweet pup to live every day to the fullest. So they came up with a bucket list.

“The whole point of this was just to have some fun–fun for us and fun with L.J., and have great memories with L.J. and just to celebrate L.J.,” said Shomali.

The couple started adding things to the list: “Things that L.J. would really enjoy doing, or things that were just nice for the community.”

100-Year-Old Woman Fulfills Bucket List Dream to See Polar Bears in the Wild

Topping the list at number at one is for Little Joe to chow down on a Big Mac. “He’ll love that one,” Shomali said.

Next up is a big one–for L.J. to ride in a fire truck. “It should be happening Saturday,” said Shomali. “The fire truck is coming to pick him up.”

Number three is for L.J. to have a candlelit steak dinner in the park. Number four is to devour an ice cream cone, which he has not only successfully completed, but Shomali says it was probably Little Joe’s favorite item thus far. Number five was a donation to a shelter at a local church, and number six was a donation to an animal shelter through the Maryland SPCA.

Number seven spiced things up a bit–a blind date. “He had a lot of fun,” Shomali said of L.J.’s impromptu date with a vivacious fellow canine running freely in her large, beautiful backyard.

Number eight is to hit the doggy spa. “Not yet,” said Shomali. “That’s all my wife.”

Number nine is to ride in a motorcycle sidecar, which has not yet been completed. Number 10, to meet a famous dog or a police dog, is happening soon.

“An inspector from homeland security who is a canine handler called us and we’re setting up a time for him to bring his Shepherd and 2-year-old Beagle over,” Shomali explained.

Dog Embarks on 4,000-Mile Cross-Country Biking Journey

Number 11 is to have a birthday party with friends, which the couple is planning to do over the summer “when it’s still nice out,” because they believe the beagle’s birthday is January and they’d prefer not to wait. Number 12 is to get on the news–done. Number 13 is to donate to the Beagle Freedom Project, which has partially been completed, but they still plan to do more. Number 14 is to go for a swim this summer.

And finally, number 15 is the doozie:  “To meet baby Shomali in December.”

The happy couple is expecting their first child this holiday season, and is optimistic that their pet will still be around then. And although the Shomalis are overjoyed their beagle’s bucket list has resonated so well with people, at the same time, they’re not really surprised.

“There’s so many people out there that have a love for their animals and do treat their pets as kids and can relate to this type of relationship,” Shomali said. “It’s been a lot of fun, and that was the main goal.”
