No ‘News’ Is Good ‘News’

So I might as well tell you, I’m getting married in less than two weeks.

I hesitate to share this information, because I really hate the trend of young TV correspondents throwing themselves into every story as if we are what the news is about, as opposed to mere tellers of the news….

But I suppose this blog thing is supposed to allow more of a relationship between viewer and correspondent, and since I’ll be gone all next week and the announcement may appear in a Wedding Announcements page or two (anyone out there read the Kansas City Star or the South Philly Review?), I thought I’d share.

I just talked to Frank Garcia, with our wedding band, the Funk Syndicate… (My fiancee is from the KC, MO, region.)

In any case, I found myself saying very forcefully the following:

"Please don’t play any Huey Lewis.

"Or, for that matter, any News."

Hope that’s settled. Garcia seemed agreeable.

Mazel tov. I was married over Labor Day weekend too. Funk huh? I guess Kelly Clarkson is out then. Since You’ve Been Gone totally rocks when you’re three sheets to the wind.
As an aside, if you want your wedding party to be more lively than this blog (which it undoubtedly will be!), I suggest you not invite the ABC News standards people – the ones who read and edit your blog responses.
Best wishes.

Jake, you’re right. This blog thing IS about forming a relationship between writer and reader. I feel as if I know you already….
If you could also mention no “chicken dance” to the funk people, that would be much appreciated. But if they wanted to roll in any “Journey” or “Cher” I think we’d all love it.
maz,
a bridesmaid.

What are your thoughts on an Electric Slide ban?

Congratulations, and mazel ton (that means lots of good wishes and luck), too! Although you’ve mentioned Jennifer many times (usually named as the mysterious “FiancĂ©e”), you never seemed to mention much beyond that. You’ll have to let us know where you’re registered for gifts (Neiman Marcus? Bloomingdale’s? Macy’s? Target? Home Depot? Costco? The DNC? The K Street Project?) and all about the plans for your bachelor party (and Jennifer’s bachelorette party, if she’s willing to divulge such details), which I’m sure will be memorable.
If you’re desperate for entertainment at either party, we could contact Ann Coulter, who I’ve heard does devastatingly funny impressions of a compassionate, understanding person (despite having had no prior experience), or even Tom DeLay who can regale you with his many tips on how to make your newlywed money work for you (and he should know). I also hear that Joe Lieberman is available between campaign appearances to give a rather stirring and emotional presentation on how to be a winner through loyalty and good friendships. How could you possibly resist such entertainment?

Congratulations! Please just don’t let them talk you into another ‘Bridal Boot Camp’ on GMA . . .

“My fiancee is from the KC, MO, region” – spoken like a true east coaster!
Actually now that I think about it, they just got indoor plumbing in 2004.

Regards to you and Jen (from a former coworker of hers)! I just got married last month. It was one of the most amazing and fun things I’ve ever done, but I’m so glad it’s over!
Don’t let the bastards get you down (in other words: make it YOURS),

Congrats, Jake! I’ve been reading your blog for a few months now but have never posted. I was pleasantly surprised to see your wedding announcement in our hometown newspaper (St. Joseph, MO) a few weeks ago. Nice picture, too–what a lovely couple. Anyway, all the best to both of you.
PS Don’t worry, I think we’ve finally gotten all the problems worked out back here with our fancy new indoor plumbing! :)
