N.I.E., M.I.A.?

The Democrat’s take on the politics of national security is bursting onto the scene today in full force (or it would, if stories about President Clinton’s angry exchange with Fox News Channel would lessen)…. They are seizing on the New York Times report that a National Intelligence Estimate about the global war on terror drafted in April concludes that the war in Iraq has fueled a new generation of jihadist terrorists — and that the overall terror threat has grown since 9/11. Senators from both parties have CALLED FOR THE RELEASE of a public version of the NIE…

Rep. Jane Harman, D-CA, ranking Democrat on the House Select Committee on Intelligence, today said that there is another NIE specific to Iraq that is in draft form but is being withheld until after the elections.

National Intelligence Director John Negroponte SAID YESTERDAY rejected the idea that the US is at a greater risk of attack than it was in 2001.  "We are certainly more vigilant. We are better prepared," he said. "We are safer."

What do you think? Has the war in Iraq made us safer?

P.S. Today on Good Morning America, we took a look at a groundbreaking new therapy for amputees injured in Iraq — horseback riding. You can read the STORY HERE.
