The intelligence committee has had this report since April and they didn't know what it contained? Please. They got suckered by the NYT (who got exactly what they deserved after it was fully released - egg on their face!) The report is RIGHT ON - there would be more terrorists no matter what Bush had done - but he has kept us safe since 9/11, in case you haven't noticed!!

Jake, reinstatement of the draft with No deferments will put an end to this neocratic midset that we rule the world and will invade anyone we don't like or who disagrees with us, all the while sending our troops into battle ill equiped, under forced and without leadership. It's criminal to say the least but what do you expect from people who like to play war on paper but have never had to fight in battle. God bless our soldiers and all those wounded and their families. They don't have a choice in this, but the American public does and we owe it to them to put and end to this maddness sooner rather then later. Thanks Grannysue

Hi Jake,
Just wanted to say thanks so much for an inspiring story. My hat is off to those soldiers who came home injured and also to those men and women who will not come home. Since you told this amazing story do you think you could go one step further with it and let people know about the anti horse slaughter bill that is sitting in front of the senate at this very moment? There are hundreds of horses who are potential candidates for other programs just like this one. They don't deserve to die to become some "blue plate special" overseas, they deserve to live out their days. Our injured soldiers have been given a second chance at life, wouldn't it be great if we could get these horses a second chance as well. Thanks again for the awesome story!

Thank you for the excellent article regarding the use of therapeutic horsebackriding for injured soldiers.
I would like to mention that a readily available source of horse/human therapy could be the horses that are sold auction to be sent to slaughter by foreign-owned companys only to be eaten in Belgium, France, and Japan. Those horses certainly deserve a better fate than a cruel death and could most certainly be used in a therapy situation that your article so aptly describes.
In fact, a bill in the Senate, S1915, would end the slaughter of these beautiful creatures and give them a more deserving life, if passed during this year's session.

The invasion of Iraq has accomplished one thing only: A whole lot of people who didn't like us much to begin with, now hate us. If for no other reason, we've caused the deaths of about 50,000 Iraqis. Our own death toll is now more than the toll from the 9/11 attacks. Is more death and injury justified? I think not.
Further, the hatred for us has caused more and more extremists to flock to the cause of eradicating us as a society.
No, sir, we are not safe. We aren't even safer. But to Mr. Bush's credit we haven't had a buffalo stampede since 9/11, either.
