Dr. Dobson Responds

Kuo’s book alleges all sorts of personal slams against evangelical leaders by unnamed White House officials. But Focus on the Family is havign none of it, with director of issue analysis Carrie Gordon Earll saying:

"The release of this book criticizing the Bush administration’s handling of its faith-based initiative program seems to represent little more than a mix of sour grapes and political timing. …Big media will no doubt play this story to the hilt in the next several weeks, because it allows them to take aim at two of their favorite targets: President Bush and socially conservative Christians. Sadly, Kuo’s characterization of his former colleagues, bosses and mission — mischaracterizations, really — will be fed to the public as truth.

"While Focus on the Family does not participate in the faith-based initiative program, we are allies with many who do — and they have far different impressions of the people and events documented in Kuo’s book. Our support for the program is unchanged, and we applaud the president’s hard work in reducing dependency on government programs while connecting people to their communities. It’s a commitment that dates back to his time as governor of Texas and one that will be a large and important part of his White House legacy."

This is a typical first response from someone who wants to haughtily dismiss the entire argument: disregard the message while dissing the messenger, and take cheap postshots at the press while doing so. Will other faith-based organizations involved in these “initiatives” give the same kind of response? Probably.

Your comments might have had some credibility if it were not for the fact that
(a) David Kuo’s Conservative Credentials are impeccable.
(b) David Kuo was not sacked or dismissed but he left of his own accord because of a Brain Tumor which subsequently caused him to have a vehicle accident.
Don’t abuse the messenger, disabuse the doubts.

That “response” is HIGH-larious. When in doubt, blame the media.

It is about time someone came forward to remind the American people that no certain group, coalition, party, or title has a monopoly on morality. These people have been hiding behind the Bible for years, telling lies, living sordid lives and raping the coffers while trying to convince others, who deeply desire similar privilege, that it is God’s will. The cover is off! Hypocrites and liars! God bless Kuo for being courageous and honest in the face of diabolical demons!
