GOP PAC Launches Startling Abortion Ads Aimed at Prying African Americans from Democratic Party

ABC’s Steven Portnoy Reports: A Republican-leaning political action committee is using eyebrow-raising ads on urban music radio stations to try to convince African-Americans to abandon the Democratic Party for its support of abortion rights.

In one particularly provocative spot, as a baby cries and thunder clasps in the background, a female announcer says, "Black babies are terminated at triple the rate of white babies." Democrats support "liberal abortion laws that are decimating our people," she says, while "the individual’s right to life is protected in the Republican platform."

"Don’t buy the Democrats’ lie," intones a male announcer as he reads the ad’s tagline. "Killing unborn babies is no way to help those in poverty."

Another ad asks, "Why do our leaders in Congress support the pro-abortion agenda of the Democrats? Or more to the point: Why do we support them?"

America’s PAC, an Iowa-based group, reported to the IRS last week that it spent more than $666,000 last quarter to produce and place the ads in 12 states, including Ohio, Virginia and New Mexico.

The ads targeting African-American voters have been largely cleared on urban music stations owned by Lanham, MD-based Radio One, a minority-owned group which calls itself the "Urban Media Specialist."

On Radio One stations in Cleveland, Cincinnati, Dayton and Columbus, African-American listeners are urged by the ads to turn their backs on the Democrats.

"When someone you’ve called a friend betrays you, the truth can hurt," a female announcer says. "For 50 years now, we’ve trusted the Democrats for education, health care and economic opportunity. And the truth is, today’s Democrats take us for granted."

The group is also running ads on Hispanic stations in Denver, Albuquerque, Sacramento and Las Vegas, among other markets. The New York Sun reported one of those ads says, "Republicans respect the Latino soldier… Enough with these Democrats."

So the Dems betray 50 years of trust and that’s worse than the Elephant placing a pedophile at the head of the Endangered Children Committee?

These are the most disguisting, sickest ads I’ve heard yet. Republicans will go to any extent to destroy our country!

Wait, a Republican PAC is saying that protecting a woman’s right to choose what to do with her own body is the Democrats’ “fault”?
That’s as ludicrous as Bill O’Reilly saying the other night that “It’s never the case that a mother’s life is in danger during pregnancy.”
Republicans should try harder to actually think before they say things, they might not be in the situation they are right now in midterms if they didn’t make these sorts of off-the-wall comments.

What the mother does with her own body is her business. What she does with her childs body affects society. Enough of the senseless killing of the most innocent for the sake of comvenience. That is what is truly sick!

Ummm the reason they are doing this is because of the beliefs of most blacks with the bible in which yes killing a baby is wrong. So it is up to each individual to be intelligent enough to realize the pros and cons of both parties.

Sounds like the GOP trying to steal another election with their attack ads. I wonder how many GOP members knew about Foley’s follies and Jack’s contacts, but did or said nothing? These actions or lack of, represents turning your back on all of America. Does their (GOP) hypocrisy have any limits?

That’s the dumbest ad ever. Women get abortion becuase they don’t have the money to raise a child. They don’t the white GOP support network to help them” white GOP women help other white GOP women” It’s harder to live as a minority then as the majority. When are they going to understand that. Look at Rosa Parks who was denied service at the cracker barrel.

The Republicans don’t acknowledge that the fact that African-Americans are poorer than other people. Poverty is one of the principle indicators for a woman getting an abortion. I’m generally opposed to abortion on demand, but the Republican opposition to any program, from public education to jobs programs is the reason for a more frequent abortion rate. Such hypocrites!

LOL – truth hurts, doesn’t it. The facts support the ads – it’s just that many can’t handle facts – read Democrats.

I have a good aquaintance who is the director of a city homeless shelter. He sees people of all color there. Poverty is not a consequence of race – it is a consequence of belief and actions.
I have African-American friends who are not in poverty because they do not BELIEVE as those who practice poverty believe. They then do not choose unproductive activities like those in poverty choose.
What you believe will have you choose life or choose death with your vote – and pay the consequences.

just proves that he Republicans are so far to the right that they are now the left with their attack and hate ads which more look like the campaign in Nazi Germany before WWII

Once again, the republicans posture themselves as ‘the party of God’ while they continue with a leagcy of corruption, perversion, greed and racism. Come to think of it, both major parties leave much to be desired

For much of my life the republican party has been known for many things, most of which are unamerican to me: greed, division, racism, perversion, not to mention the calling of men of valor, ”cowards”. God’s party, my foot.

I wonder how many Dems knew about Gerry Studds actually seducing a male page after getting him drunk? Well, they all did and still gave him standing ovations and elected him to a comittee chairmanship on 5 occasions. And the Dem leadership talks about protecting the children. Comapre ex-Congressman Foley’s treatment to that of the Dems toward Studds. Of course…you have to have morals to be offended.

The Republicans should spend as much time and effort in supporting affordable education to EVERYONE, then the time and money spent on this senseless and fear-based ad. This is not a democratic/republication issue, it is a humanitarian issue. Knowledge is power. Compassion for women having to make this decision is needed instead of judgment. Until you walk in her shoes…..

Republicans care very, very much for the fetus but not for the baby, the toddler, the preteen, the teenage, the adult and the old person that fetus becomes; hell no, after the woman is MADE to have the fetus she might not want, then it’s “pull yourself up by your own boot straps” if you need help at any of those stages of life. The heart of the matter is CONTROL over women not the welfare of human beings.

“No Life no hope” that is what Black people should see. We might have killed the next MLK in convenience abortion. if you don’t have the money to support a child don’t have sex. Plus the GOP is not GOD’s party but it is closer to God than the Dems.
Did I mention I’m Black. Abortion
is Black killing Black or what ever your color.

To the person who said the GOP is closer to God then the Democrats. I dont recall God telling the Sadduccess and The Pharisees one was better then the other. The bible says God is not a respector of persons, and that if you commit one sin, you have commited them all. So to say lying is different in the eyes of God then Abortion, proves the fact that “My thoughts are not your thoughts, and my ways are not your ways”.

Sounds like the Grand Old Perverts party is in desperation mode. Im still waiting for the October surprise from Carl Rove.

As a life long anti-abortion Republican I am surprised by the lack of political scence of those pursueing this issue at this late date. Anyone who the abortion issue is relavent to, has long ago decided who he wishes to vote for. The undecided voter is the one who is today considering staying at home on election day. He will vote Republican if the President admits his errors and emphasizes the lack of Democratic answers to major issues of the day.

just one point . black woman have always had less abortions than white, which was why there was that misconception that black girls were having more sex than other groups. i hate when people twist things for there own purposes.what’s happening to this country is not about parties. there are not clearcut parties and has not been for decades. folks, we have nothing more than a bunch of corrupt politicans that have sold us out.bring on the clowns!

America’s PAC is running ads on a “regional Mexican” radio station in Columbus, OH. A man and a woman have a conversation in Spanish which paint the Democratic party as the party of gay marriage and abortion. This wouldn’t be so bad if not for the fact that these ads are the ONLY political content offered in a region with very limited Spanish media.
