Obama’s ‘Fortuitous’ Call
ABC News’ Tahman Bradley Reports: So how did Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) snag his coveted speaking role in New Hampshire?
According to Kathy Sullivan, the chair of the New Hampshire Democratic State Party, it was "fortuitous" that she happened to answer her phone two days after the election when Obama called to congratulate her on the state party’s sweeping victory. It was then, Sullivan told ABC News, that she extended an offer to Obama to appear at a celebration that the party was developing.
Asked if other potential 2008 candidates–like Sen. Evah Bayh (D-IN) and former Sen. John Edwards (D-NC)—who actually stumped in New Hampshire in advance of the midterms–would be invited to the Dec. 10 Democratic Party celebration in Manchester, NH, Sullivan said "no."
"The state party makes an effort to give very prominent national Democrats a showcase with our activists," said Sullivan.
She added that other potential ’08 candidates will have individual time with the party faithful at future New Hampshire Democratic Party events.
