Robert Gates Replaced By Lawrence Eagleburger on Elite Iraq Survery Group
ABC News’ Dan Beckmann and Rhonda Schwartz Report: As Robert Gates begins to assume his duties as Defense Secretary, he is resigning his position on the elite Iraq Study Group, commissioned by the White House to examine alternative strategies in Iraq and headed by former Sect. of State James A. Baker and Lee Hamilton.
Gates is being replaced by Lawrence Eagleburger, also a former Sect. of State during the G. H. W. Bush administration, is a career diplomat who has served under both Republicans and Democrats.
The commission members are meeting with President Bush on Monday at the White House, as the nation awaits the conclusions of their report.

What do you mean, “begins to assume his duties as Defense Secretary”? He has to be confirmed first, which is no foregone conclusion. Lazy reporting? An effort to influence opinion? Doesn’t matter, just plain wrong.
