President Bush Gives RNC $12 million
ABC News’ David Chalian Reports: President Bush gave the Republican National Committee an early Christmas present this year. The Bush-Cheney 2004 campaign contributed nearly $12 million to the RNC in advance of the November election in which the GOP suffered significant losses. At the end of September, the Bush campaign fund had roughly $13 million cash on hand, but without another campaign ahead of him, President Bush transferred nearly all of that remaining sum over to the RNC. Tracey Schmitt, spokeswoman for the RNC, tells ABC News that (even with that hefty contribution) the party ended the most recent financial filing period — which came to a close on Nov. 27 — roughly $3 million in debt due to post-election expenses and commitments.
