SMU Likely Choice for Presidential Library
ABC News’ Geoff Morrell Reports: Barring any unforeseen problems, Southern Methodist University appears to be the choice for the George W. Bush Presidential Library. The university has long been considered the front-runner because it’s the First Lady’s alma mater. In a 2005 interview, Laura Bush told reporters SMU was her "sentimental favorite".
The library selection committee announced today that they are entering the next phase of deliberation on site selection with SMU.
Committee member Donald Evans said in the statement, “The Selection Committee is taking another step in the President’s decision to select a site for the George W. Bush Presidential Library as we enter into further discussions with Southern Methodist University (SMU).”
A final decision will not be made for a few months, but the committee entering the next phase of talks with SMU (and not the other two finalists, Baylor and University of Dallas) seems a telling sign.
