ABC News’ Teddy Davis Reports: Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kan.) will declare his presidential candidacy on Saturday, Jan. 20 in Topeka, Kan.
Brownback, who is hoping to surprise his better-funded GOP rivals in the Iowa caucuses on the strength of his support among pro-life conservatives, has timed his announcement with the annual March for Life, which takes place in Washington, DC on Monday, Jan. 22.
Brownback plans to speak at the March for Life. He also plans to meet with pro-life activists who descend on the nation’s capital the day before the anti-abortion rally.
As someone who has already filed a presidential exploratory committee with the Federal Election Commission, Brownback is already able to raise money for his White House bid.
But his official declaration of candidacy on Jan. 20 will allow him to flesh out his ideas for "rebuilding the family and renewing the American culture."
