Bush to Deliver Iraq Speech on Wednesday

ABC News’ Robin Sproul Reports:  President Bush plans to deliver his speech on "the new way forward" in Iraq in primetime on Wednesday at 9:00 pm ET from the White House.  The speech is expected to last approximately 25 minutes, according to the White House.

On the weekend political talk shows, Democrats made it clear that they plan to use their new majority clout to oppose President Bush’s likely call for additional troops in Iraq.

In fact, Democrats have made the point to use the word "escalation" instead of the word "surge" when describing the President’s expected proposal.

On Fox News Sunday, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) told Brit Hume, "First of all, we see this simply as an escalation and not a change."

And House Democratic Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel (D-IL) tells the Washington Post today, "’This is not a surge; it’s an escalation, and we want to make sure the definition is correct,’ he said. ‘When the American people voted for change in November, this is not what they had in mind.’"
