Edwards Points to Polls, Even Though They’re Just ‘Noise’
ABC News’ Tahman Bradley Reports: After he ran through a long list of polling data showing him leading Democrats in Iowa, tied for the lead in New Hampshire, and fairing better than any other Democratic hopeful in a hypothetical general election battle, former Sen. John Edwards, D-N.C., referred to all of that stuff as "just a bunch of noise."
In an interview this afternoon on CNN, the former Senator said what matters to the American people most is what plan candidates offer to address impotent issues.
Whether the polls are noise or not, the Senator may have been quick to point out his strong poll numbers in states that have early 2008 nominating contests because one of his chief rivals Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., stole the spotlight during her weekend visit to Iowa, home of 2008′s first presidential caucus.
Despite last week’s entrance of Sen. Clinton to the stacked Democratic field with half a dozen hopefuls including Illinois Senator Barack Obama, D-Illin., Edwards has maintained (as he so eagerly pointed out today) his lead in polls in Iowa and New Hampshire.
Edwards placed second in the Iowa caucuses during his first run for the White House in 2004.
