McCain Say He Understands His Iraq Postion May Cost Him
ABC News’ Lisa Chinn Reports: With polls showing Americans favoring a dramatic change of course in Iraq and speculation surrounding published reports saying that President Bush will soon call for a troop surge in Iraq, the war in Iraq has seeped into the already (unofficially) underway 2008 presidential contest.
So far, John McCain is the only serious contender who has said he supports a troop increase.
At a brief Q and A after his remarks at an American Enterprise Institute event on a proposed build up of troop strength in Iraq, Senator John McCain acknowledged that his position might endanger his presidential ambition, saying,
"I have presidential ambitions but they pale in comparison to what I think is most important to our nation’s security. If it destroys any ambitions I might have, I’m willing to pay that price gladly."
